Frame your credentials around industrial product knowledge
ABB's Customer Support roles typically require fluency with automation or electrical systems, not just general service skills. Tailor your resume to highlight any hands-on experience with industrial equipment, PLCs, or manufacturing workflows before you apply.
Target ABB roles tied to specific product divisions
ABB structures hiring around business areas like Motion, Robotics, and Electrification. Applying to a division where your technical background aligns directly improves your odds of clearing the specialty occupation threshold USCIS uses for H-1B approval.
Verify your role qualifies as a specialty occupation
Customer Support positions at manufacturing companies face closer USCIS scrutiny on specialty occupation classification. Confirm the job description requires a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field, not just any degree, before accepting an offer.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open Customer Support roles at ABB
ABB posts Customer Support openings across multiple divisions and regions, which can make them hard to track. Migrate Mate filters visa-sponsoring employers by role type so you can find and monitor ABB postings that align with your background.
Ask about LCA filing timing before your start date
ABB must file a certified Labor Condition Application with the DOL before submitting your H-1B petition. Confirm with your recruiter that the LCA process is underway well before your intended start date to avoid delays in your authorization.
Understand how EB-2 and EB-3 pathways apply to your role
For long-term permanent residence, your Customer Support title and degree level determine whether you qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship. Roles requiring advanced technical expertise or a master's degree typically support EB-2, while bachelor's-level positions usually route through EB-3 and PERM.

Does ABB sponsor H-1B visas for Customer Supports?
Yes, ABB sponsors H-1B visas for Customer Support roles, particularly those tied to its industrial automation, robotics, and electrification divisions. Because these positions are expected to involve specialized technical knowledge, they can satisfy USCIS's specialty occupation requirement. Your degree field and the specific job description both factor into whether a given role qualifies.
How do I apply for Customer Support jobs at ABB?
Applications go through ABB's careers portal, where roles are organized by business area and region. You can also browse Customer Support openings at ABB that are filtered for visa sponsorship through Migrate Mate, which makes it easier to identify postings where international candidates are actively considered. Tailor your application to the specific product division you're targeting.
Which visa types does ABB typically use for Customer Support roles?
ABB most commonly sponsors H-1B visas for Customer Support hires who need nonimmigrant work authorization. For candidates seeking a longer-term path, ABB also supports Green Card sponsorship through the EB-2 and EB-3 employment-based categories, with the specific pathway depending on the role's degree requirements and the candidate's qualifications.
What qualifications does ABB expect for Customer Support roles?
ABB's Customer Support positions in manufacturing typically require a bachelor's degree in engineering, electrical engineering, or a related technical field, along with hands-on familiarity with industrial systems such as drives, PLCs, or robotics. Candidates who can troubleshoot product issues and communicate technical solutions to industrial clients are strongly preferred over those with purely service-oriented backgrounds.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for ABB Customer Support hires?
For H-1B sponsorship, ABB must first obtain a certified Labor Condition Application from the DOL, which takes around seven business days, before filing the I-129 petition with USCIS. Standard USCIS processing runs three to six months, though premium processing can reduce that to around 15 business days. For Green Card sponsorship through PERM, the full process typically spans one to three years.
