You will partner closely with Product to define a roadmap for success.
This role focuses on building a hybrid search and discovery interface that seamlessly balances the high-intent efficiency of traditional UI with the discovery power of AI. In addition, you will help create a unified vision on how AI can transform our consumer touchpoints.

- Design intuitive, conversational, and agentic patterns that feel proactive and helpful, moving beyond reactive commerce to anticipation.

- Embrace agility—iterating quickly, adapting to change, and making data-driven decisions while maintaining a strong vision for the future.
- Balance near-term execution with long-term strategic thinking, ensuring scalability and coherence across the Affirm ecosystem.
- Push the envelope—challenge the status quo, think outside the box, and take calculated risks to drive meaningful innovation in financial products.
- Bring exceptional visual and interaction design skills to craft delightful, polished experiences that build trust and confidence.
- Champion a test-and-learn mindset, leveraging experimentation, research, and analytics to continuously refine and optimize user experiences.

Frame Your Portfolio Around Financial Products
Affirm evaluates Staff Designers on systems thinking and product complexity. Before applying, reframe case studies around multi-step user flows, trust-sensitive interfaces, or checkout experiences, not lifestyle or brand design work.
Clarify Your OPT or CPT Timeline Early
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your STEM extension eligibility before your first recruiter screen. Affirm's hiring cycle can run 8 to 12 weeks, and a misaligned authorization window creates friction during offer finalization.
Target Roles Tied to Core Product Teams
Staff Designer openings connected to lending, checkout, or merchant-facing products tend to advance through Affirm's hiring process faster than exploratory or platform-side roles. Filter your applications toward those product areas first.
Prepare Your H-1B Petition Documents Before the Offer
Affirm's legal team will need your degree credentials, a job duties description, and evidence that your role qualifies as a specialty occupation. Having a credential evaluation and organized transcripts ready shortens the time between offer and USCIS filing.
Browse Open Staff Designer Roles on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Staff Designer openings at Affirm by visa type. This surfaces roles where sponsorship is already confirmed, so you're not guessing about eligibility before investing time in a full application.
Understand How PERM Affects Your Long-Term Path
Affirm sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 green cards through the PERM labor certification process with DOL. For Staff Designers from high-demand countries, starting this process as early as your employer allows matters significantly given priority date backlogs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Affirm sponsor H-1B visas for Staff Designers?
Yes, Affirm sponsors H-1B visas for Staff Designer roles. Design positions at Affirm typically qualify as specialty occupations because they require a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as interaction design, human-computer interaction, or a related discipline. If you're already on H-1B with another employer, Affirm can file an H-1B transfer, which lets you start work as soon as the petition is received by USCIS.
Which visa types does Affirm commonly use for Staff Designer roles?
Affirm sponsors H-1B, TN visa, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT for design roles, along with immigrant visa categories including EB-2 and EB-3 for longer-term permanent residence pathways. Canadian and Mexican nationals in design roles may qualify for TN visa status, which doesn't require an approved petition before starting work and has no annual cap.
What qualifications does Affirm expect for a Staff Designer role?
Staff Designer positions at Affirm are senior-level roles. You're expected to lead complex design systems work, drive cross-functional alignment, and demonstrate measurable impact on product outcomes. Most candidates have substantial years of experience in product or UX design, a strong portfolio showing systems-level thinking, and experience in fintech, payments, or consumer financial products is a meaningful differentiator during the review process.
How do I apply for Staff Designer jobs at Affirm?
You can find and apply for Staff Designer roles at Affirm through Migrate Mate, which filters open positions by visa sponsorship type so you can confirm eligibility before applying. When you apply, tailor your portfolio to show experience with complex transactional or financial user flows. Recruiters at Affirm typically conduct an initial screen followed by a portfolio review, then a structured design exercise before moving to final-round interviews.
How do I manage the timing between Affirm's hiring process and my visa status?
The biggest timing risk is an expiring work authorization window that doesn't align with Affirm's offer and filing timeline. If you're on OPT, verify your end date before your first interview. H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed in April for an October 1 start, so if you're not cap-exempt, that window defines your earliest possible start date. Affirm's legal team can advise on filing options once you reach the offer stage.
