ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Managed Services Cloud Engineer - FinOps supports cloud financial management, optimization, and governance activities across multiple managed services clients. This role combines public cloud knowledge, financial and operational analysis, customer-facing communication, and execution discipline to help clients improve visibility, accountability, forecasting accuracy, and cost efficiency across AWS, Azure, OCI, and/or GCP. The role is expected to independently own standard and moderately complex FinOps analyses and operational activities while escalating higher-complexity modeling, client strategy, or service design issues to senior engineers or team leads as appropriate.
- Analyze cloud spend, usage trends, allocation accuracy, anomalies, and optimization opportunities across AWS, Azure, OCI, and/or GCP using native tooling and approved third-party FinOps platforms.
- Identify, quantify, prioritize, and help drive optimization opportunities including rightsizing, idle resource cleanup, storage optimization, licensing alignment, commitment-based savings, and scheduling strategies.
- Develop financially grounded findings and recommendations that translate technical observations into clear business value for engineering, finance, procurement, and operational stakeholders.
- Create dashboards, reports, budgets, forecasts, showback and chargeback views, executive summaries, and recurring service review content for internal and customer-facing use.
- Support cost allocation and tagging activities including governance standards, mapping logic, reporting accuracy, inherited tag strategies, and handling of non-tagable resources.
- Partner with CloudOps, platform, application, finance, procurement, and client stakeholders to support implementation of recommendations and validate realized outcomes.
- Support onboarding of new clients, accounts, subscriptions, projects, and billing data sources into approved FinOps tooling, reporting workflows, and governance structures.
- Perform data validation and reconciliation across billing exports, connectors, cost datasets, and reporting models to improve trust in reported values.
- Use spreadsheets, reporting tools, scripting, automation, and process standardization to reduce manual effort, improve repeatability, and increase delivery quality and scale.
- Maintain timely ticket updates, work documentation, meeting follow-ups, and internal or customer communications in accordance with service delivery expectations.
- Stay current on cloud pricing models, FinOps best practices, and service capabilities while helping refine how the organization delivers cloud cost optimization and advisory services.
- Provide occasional after-hours support for client meetings, reporting deadlines, change windows, critical incidents, or urgent cost-related issues when required.
- Other job duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum Required - Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, finance, business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience.

- Experience using cloud cost management, billing analysis, or reporting platforms, whether native cloud tools or approved third-party solutions.
- Experience in a customer-facing, stakeholder-facing, consulting, or service delivery role with responsibility for presenting findings and recommendations.
- Strong analytical, spreadsheet, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a shared services or multi-client environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working in a managed services, consulting, or outsourced service delivery environment.
- Experience supporting more than one public cloud provider in a FinOps or cost optimization capacity.
- Relevant certifications such as FinOps Certified Practitioner, AWS, Azure, or GCP certifications.
- Experience with platforms such as Harness CCM, Apptio Cloudability, CloudZero, Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Python, or PowerShell.
- Experience with forecasting, budgeting, allocation methodologies, showback or chargeback models, commitment planning, and savings realization tracking.
- Familiarity with ticketing and workflow platforms such as ServiceNow, Jira, or similar tools.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Strong understanding of cloud billing constructs including on-demand usage, reserved capacity, savings plans or commitments, amortization, allocation methods, and forecasting drivers.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret datasets, identify trends, quantify financial impact, and convert findings into prioritized recommendations.
- Ability to communicate technical and financial concepts clearly to technical, operational, procurement, finance, and executive audiences.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills with a professional customer-facing presence and the ability to lead recurring advisory discussions.
- Ability to work independently in standard and moderately complex situations while also collaborating effectively across distributed teams, time zones, and functions.
- Strong documentation, organization, and time management skills with consistent follow-through and attention to detail.

Align your credentials to enterprise infrastructure roles
Ahead focuses on cloud platforms, data center modernization, and managed services. Tailor your resume to show hands-on experience with tools like AWS, Azure, VMware, or Cisco rather than generic software engineering experience.
Target engineering teams building client-facing solutions
Ahead's engineering hires often work on client deployments, not internal product development. Emphasizing consulting-style project work or multi-client environments in your applications signals the fit Ahead's hiring managers typically look for.
Search Ahead's open roles through Migrate Mate
Browse Engineering positions at Ahead that are filtered for visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate. This saves time screening roles that won't support your visa status before you invest in a full application.
Get your OPT documentation ready before interviewing
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your EAD card is current and that your STEM extension eligibility is documented. Ahead's hiring process can move quickly, and gaps in your work authorization paperwork create delays that cost you the offer.
Ask specifically about PERM sponsorship timelines during negotiation
For Green Card-track roles, PERM labor certification can take 18 months or longer through DOL. Raise this during offer negotiation, not after you start. Knowing when Ahead typically initiates the process helps you plan your long-term status.

Find Engineering at Ahead JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Ahead sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, Ahead sponsors H-1B visas for Engineering roles. The company has an established process for filing H-1B petitions, which includes the annual USCIS lottery in April for cap-subject cases. If you're already in H-1B status with another employer, a transfer to Ahead is typically faster and not lottery-dependent.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at Ahead?
You can find Engineering roles at Ahead filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate, which makes it easier to identify positions open to candidates who need sponsorship. Apply directly through Ahead's careers page once you've identified a fit. Tailoring your application to Ahead's enterprise technology focus, particularly cloud infrastructure and managed services, strengthens your candidacy.
Which visa types does Ahead commonly sponsor for Engineering roles?
Ahead sponsors H-1B visas for specialty occupation engineering positions and supports F-1 OPT and STEM OPT extensions for recent graduates. For engineers pursuing permanent residency, Ahead also has pathways through EB-2 and EB-3 classifications, which typically involve PERM labor certification filed with the DOL. TN status is an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles.
What qualifications does Ahead typically expect for sponsored Engineering roles?
Ahead's engineering positions generally require a bachelor's degree or higher in a technical field such as computer science, electrical engineering, or information systems. Hands-on experience with enterprise platforms like AWS, Azure, VMware, or Cisco is a recurring requirement across posted roles. Candidates with consulting or client-deployment backgrounds tend to align well with the type of engineering work Ahead does.
How do I plan my timeline around the H-1B process if I get an offer from Ahead?
USCIS opens H-1B registration in early March, with the lottery typically completed before April. If selected, Ahead's legal team would file your petition by the April 1 deadline for an October 1 start date. If you're on OPT, confirm your expiration date against this timeline and clarify the cap-gap coverage period so your work authorization stays continuous through the transition.
