Target faculty and research roles first
Arkansas State University's sponsorship activity is concentrated in academic and research positions. Focus your search on tenure-track faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and research staff roles, where H-1B and Green Card sponsorship is most commonly offered.
Understand how university hiring timelines work
Academic hiring at A-State follows a distinct calendar. Faculty searches typically open in fall for positions starting the following academic year. Applying early and tracking postings throughout the fall cycle gives you the best chance of landing a sponsored role.
Ask about Green Card sponsorship from the start
A-State has a track record of supporting both H-1B and permanent residence pathways through EB-2 and EB-3 categories. For long-term candidates, it's worth confirming during the offer stage whether the role includes a commitment to Green Card sponsorship.
Use your F-1 OPT or CPT as a foot in the door
If you're completing a degree in the U.S., A-State recognizes F-1 OPT and CPT, which means you can gain experience on campus before transitioning to H-1B sponsorship. Graduate assistantships and campus employment are practical entry points worth exploring.
Check if your role qualifies as a specialty occupation
H-1B eligibility at universities depends on the role meeting specialty occupation criteria. Academic and research positions at A-State typically meet the bar, but administrative or support roles may not. Confirm the role's classification with HR before assuming sponsorship is available.
Browse verified sponsorship history before applying
Not every university department sponsors at the same rate. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, helping you prioritize A-State roles where international hiring is already established rather than speculative.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Arkansas State University sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Arkansas State University sponsors H-1B visas, primarily for faculty, researchers, and specialized professional staff. As a public university, A-State is a cap-exempt H-1B employer, meaning it can file petitions at any time of year without being subject to the annual lottery. This is a significant advantage for international candidates compared to private-sector employers.
Which visa types does Arkansas State University sponsor?
Arkansas State University sponsors H-1B visas for specialty occupation roles, EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visas for permanent residence pathways, and supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students completing U.S. degrees. TN visa holders in qualifying North American Free Trade Agreement-listed professions may also find eligible roles on campus.
Which departments or roles at Arkansas State University are most likely to offer visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at A-State is most common in academic departments hiring tenure-track or visiting faculty, STEM research programs, and specialized administrative roles requiring advanced degrees. Colleges of science, engineering, nursing, and business have historically been active in international hiring. Student affairs and general administrative roles are less likely to include sponsorship.
How do I find open visa-sponsored jobs at Arkansas State University?
Migrate Mate lists open positions at verified sponsoring employers, including Arkansas State University, so you can filter by visa type and sponsorship history in one place. You can also monitor A-State's own careers portal directly, but combining both approaches ensures you don't miss postings. Academic roles typically list in fall, so set up alerts early.
How do I approach the application process at Arkansas State University as an international candidate?
Apply through A-State's official careers portal and address your work authorization status directly in your cover letter or during initial screening. Since A-State is familiar with sponsoring international hires, transparency about your visa situation is more of an asset than a liability. Allow additional lead time for H-1B filings, as university HR departments operate on academic calendars.
