Frame your credentials around retail operations
Belk evaluates COO candidates on supply chain oversight, store operations, and P&L accountability. Before applying, document your experience with inventory systems, distribution networks, or omnichannel platforms in concrete, outcome-focused terms that translate directly to retail COO scope.
Target Belk's regional and divisional openings first
COO-level hiring at department store retailers often begins at divisional or regional VP levels before reaching enterprise COO scope. Watching Belk's leadership pipeline roles gives you an earlier entry point and signals where sponsorship decisions are already being made.
Confirm your visa category before the offer stage
Belk sponsors H-1B, TN, and Green Card pathways, but each carries different timing constraints. If you're on F-1 OPT, your 60-day grace period leaves no room for slow employer processing, so clarify sponsorship intent with HR before accepting any offer.
Understand how PERM affects senior retail hires
For EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, Belk must complete a PERM labor market test through the DOL before filing your immigrant petition. At the COO level, the job duties need to be documented with enough specificity to survive a recruitment audit, so request clarity on this process early.
Search verified COO openings at Belk on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter for COO and senior operations roles at Belk that are open to visa sponsorship. It narrows your search to employers with a confirmed sponsorship history, so you spend time on applications that can realistically lead to a visa filing.
Prepare for Belk's H-1B specialty occupation standard
USCIS requires H-1B roles to meet specialty occupation criteria, meaning a directly related bachelor's degree must be a normal minimum requirement. For a retail COO, emphasize degrees in supply chain management, business operations, or logistics alongside your leadership experience to support this standard.

Does Belk sponsor H-1B visas for COOs?
Yes, Belk has a history of sponsoring H-1B visas across its corporate functions, including senior operational roles. For a COO position, the role must qualify as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards, which means demonstrating that a specific bachelor's degree is a normal minimum requirement for the position. Retail COO roles with clearly defined technical or operational degree requirements typically satisfy this threshold.
Which visa types does Belk commonly use for COO roles?
Belk sponsors across several categories relevant to executive hires: H-1B for specialty occupation roles, TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying management or professional categories, and employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for permanent sponsorship. F-1 OPT and CPT can also apply for candidates transitioning from graduate programs into operational roles at the company.
What qualifications does Belk expect for COO positions?
Belk's COO-level roles typically require deep retail operations experience, including supply chain management, store or distribution center oversight, and cross-functional leadership. A bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, or a related field is generally a baseline requirement, with most candidates also holding an MBA or equivalent advanced credential. Demonstrated P&L accountability and omnichannel retail experience are consistent expectations across senior leadership postings.
How do I apply for COO jobs at Belk?
You can find COO and senior operations roles at Belk through Migrate Mate, which filters listings by visa sponsorship eligibility so you can confirm Belk is open to sponsoring before applying. Applications typically go through Belk's corporate careers portal, and for executive roles you should expect a multi-stage process including HR screening, panel interviews with senior leadership, and reference or background checks before any offer or sponsorship discussion.
How do I plan my timeline around Belk's visa sponsorship process?
Timeline depends heavily on which visa category applies. H-1B sponsorship is subject to the annual April lottery and October 1 start date, so an offer made mid-year may not translate to work authorization for many months. PERM-based Green Card filings through the DOL can take a year or more before USCIS even begins reviewing your immigrant petition. Raise sponsorship timing with Belk's HR team as early as the second interview round.
