We are rebuilding biotech for the AI era. When a breakthrough is delayed, the world waits. Getting a molecule from discovery to patients, or a crop from lab to field, involves thousands of slow, manual, disconnected steps. AI has the potential to change this, compressing decades of R&D work into years. But that only happens when clean, structured scientific data and AI are built into how science gets done. Benchling is the AI platform for biotech R&D. Scientists use Benchling to design experiments, capture structured data, and run AI agents and models directly in their workflows. Over 200,000 scientists around the world trust Benchling to power their most important work, from academic labs to Sanofi, Moderna, and more than half of the world's top 50 biopharma. We’re building an AI scientist for our customers. We can’t do that if we haven’t built the muscle ourselves. AI fluency is the foundation we build on; it's core to how we work, and we're committed to helping every new hire integrate it into their day-to-day. As part of our interview process, you'll complete a brief AI-focused exercise or discussion so we can understand how you think about and use AI to drive impact in your role. Feel free to reference any tools, platforms, or workflows you use today.
Role Overview
Schemas is the layer where our customers model their data. It’s a codeless configuration system powering all of Benchling's applications, representing a software abstraction around scientific data and processes. This system enables Benchling to ingest and store data at scale. You own the foundation that the rest of the product, and other Benchling teams, build on. We’re looking for someone who owns the hard product calls and is the person customers, the field, and engineers come to for the answer, not someone who routes the question to engineering and waits for a reply. You’ll set the direction for the platform primitives, like computed fields, fieldsets, constraints, static properties, and data versioning, that speed up every team building on top of Schemas, and you’ll ship toward that direction incrementally while keeping the platform stable for the admins and developers who depend on it. The integrated approach is what makes the Benchling platform different. Anything built in Schemas has to work for a wide range of customers and for the other teams building on it, so this role rewards a systems thinker who’s genuinely curious about the science and about how developers and admins actually use the product.
Responsibilities
- Lead product management for our Schemas team.
- Engage with customers, internal teams, and Benchling fields teams to understand their problems-to-solve and use cases.
- Set the vision for Schemas that will help accelerate development amongst internal development teams.
- Empower scientists, admins, and computational teams that use Benchling to turn their data into an AI-ready structured data foundation for the entire R&D lifecycle.

- Collaborate very closely with Engineering and Design to develop new product capabilities.
- Partner with Customer Experience, Marketing, and Sales.
Qualifications
- Ability to think in systems. Understanding what a customer wants and how that might impact various aspects of our product is essential.
- Demonstrated ability to have a long term vision and ship incrementally along the way.
- 6+ years of product management experience
- Experience with providing technical solutions to internal developers and external customers.
- Demonstrated ability to explain technical concepts to customers and executive leadership.
- Experience in B2B SaaS or Developer Platform industries preferred
- Demonstrated experience setting direction and influencing stakeholders

Target roles in product, engineering, and science
Benchling's sponsorship history skews toward technical and scientific roles that align with its life sciences platform. Focus your application on software engineering, product management, and bioinformatics positions where visa sponsorship is most commonly extended.
Understand which visa categories Benchling supports
Benchling sponsors H-1B, E-3, and employment-based Green Cards. If you're an Australian citizen, the E-3 pathway is worth exploring specifically, it's faster and simpler than the H-1B, and Benchling has used it.
Apply well before H-1B lottery deadlines
H-1B registrations open in March for an October start. If you're targeting Benchling through the H-1B pathway, aim to have your application materials and conversations with their recruiting team completed well before February.
Highlight domain expertise in life sciences or SaaS
Benchling sits at the intersection of software and biotech. Candidates who can speak to experience with lab workflows, scientific data, or enterprise SaaS are more competitive, and more likely to receive sponsorship consideration for technical roles.
Use Migrate Mate to find open roles with verified sponsorship
Not every job listing clearly states whether sponsorship is available. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history and find Benchling roles that are actively open to international candidates.
Ask about Green Card sponsorship during the offer stage
Benchling has sponsored employment-based Green Cards, which matters for long-term planning. Once you have an offer, it's reasonable to ask whether the company supports permanent residency petitions and at what stage that process typically begins.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Benchling sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Benchling sponsors H-1B visas and has a consistent track record of doing so. Sponsorship is most common for technical roles in software engineering, product, and scientific disciplines. If you're applying through the H-1B pathway, confirm sponsorship eligibility early in the recruiting process, since H-1B petitions must be filed before the annual cap deadline.
What visa types does Benchling sponsor?
Benchling sponsors H-1B visas, E-3 visas for Australian citizens, and employment-based Green Cards under the EB-2 and EB-3 categories. This range makes Benchling a solid option for international candidates at different career stages, whether you're entering the U.S. workforce for the first time or planning for permanent residency.
Which roles at Benchling are most likely to receive visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at Benchling is most commonly associated with technical and specialized roles, software engineers, product managers, data scientists, and scientific or bioinformatics specialists. Roles that require a degree in a specific field, such as computer science or biology, tend to qualify more easily for H-1B sponsorship under the specialty occupation standard.
How do I find open jobs at Benchling that offer visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most reliable way to find Benchling roles with confirmed sponsorship history. Rather than guessing from job descriptions, Migrate Mate filters by companies with verified visa filing records, so you can focus your search on positions where international candidates are genuinely welcome. Filter by Benchling to see currently open roles.
How do I approach the Benchling application process as a visa-requiring candidate?
Be upfront about your visa status early, Benchling has sponsored visas across multiple categories, so it's not a disqualifying factor for strong candidates. Tailor your application to highlight specialized skills in life sciences software or scientific workflows. If you're on OPT or a time-sensitive status, communicate your timeline to the recruiter so they can align the process accordingly.
