The exception is someone already in the U.S. who changes to or extends TN status, where the employer files Form I-129 with USCIS. What matters is that your degree or credentials match a listed profession and that the offer is for a role on that list. TN does not allow dual intent, so you cannot use it to pursue a green card. TN is granted for up to three years and renews indefinitely.
