CA’s goal is to help endowments & foundations, pension plans, and ultra-high net worth private clients implement and manage custom investment portfolios that generate outperformance so that they can maximize their impact on the world. Cambridge Associates delivers a range of services, including outsourced CIO, non-discretionary portfolio management, and investment consulting.
Headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, CA has offices in key markets in North America, the United Kingdom, Europe, Asia, and Oceania. Our worldwide teams ensure our clients benefit from decades of global presence, local expertise, and relationships with the top global investment managers across the world.
JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:
Investment Managing Directors (MDs) on the Venture Capital team spend the majority of their time sourcing, evaluating, and underwriting venture capital investment managers. This includes meeting with managers, attending annual meetings, networking with industry participants to gather market intelligence, and identifying promising new managers. These efforts culminate in conducting due diligence on high-conviction managers for investment by the firm and its clients. The role serves as a primary point of contact for venture capital managers, coordinating and attending meetings, producing written assessments, and facilitating the flow of manager information internally.
In addition, the Investment Managing Director is responsible for actively monitoring and evaluating managers on an ongoing basis and producing written evaluations for firm and client use. The MD is also expected to work closely with, and support the development of, Investment Analysts and Associates.
Finally, the Investment Managing Director will work collaboratively across the broader Cambridge Associates private investments team to track and analyze industry trends, contribute to research and thought leadership, and serve as a resource for client-facing colleagues constructing high-quality private investment portfolios for clients.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Lead the investment assessments of venture capital managers and markets through ongoing qualitative and quantitative research and analysis.
- Utilize common analytical frameworks and develop analyses to assess venture funds in terms of organization, investment strategy, performance, fund terms, portfolio construction, underlying portfolio companies, and other key attributes.
- Lead meetings with general partners, management teams, founders, and other relevant professionals to assess and evaluate investment managers and their funds.
- Lead reference calls regarding investment opportunities and market views with industry participants, including founders, portfolio company executives, co-investors, and other market participants.
- Produce written assessments and recommendations used by clients and colleagues to support investment decisions. For funds, this includes detailed diligence reports backed by meetings, factual analyses, and references; for the market, this includes periodic research reports on current topics of interest.
- Monitor market trends, fundraising activity, and investment activity, and contribute to the firm’s thought leadership in venture capital.
- Serve as a resource to colleagues and clients seeking current information on venture capital opportunities and markets, including data and analysis, comparisons across fund managers, and the investment views of the Private Investments team.
- Prepare materials for and participate in firm-wide meetings in which the private investments team discusses recent manager meetings and current investment opportunities of interest with client-facing colleagues.
- Represent the firm at annual manager meetings, industry events, and certain meetings with clients and prospects.
- Contribute to secondaries and co-investment evaluations, when appropriate.
- Support the development of junior team members through training, collaboration, and apprenticeship.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 15+ years of relevant investment experience, with familiarity with venture capital, growth equity, and broader private investments, preferably gained through work at a large institutional investor, venture capital or growth equity firm, or investment advisory firm
- MBA, CFA, or other relevant professional qualifications strongly preferred
- Demonstrated understanding of venture capital and its role in a diversified institutional portfolio
- Demonstrated qualitative and quantitative analytical skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience performing relevant financial analysis for private investments and ideally some experience with limited partnership agreements and fund legal terms

- Ability to work independently and under time constraints
- Demonstrated relationship-building skills

Target research and investment analyst roles
Cambridge Associates' sponsorship activity is concentrated in quantitative research, portfolio analysis, and investment consulting. These roles require specialized finance or economics backgrounds that align with the firm's selective approach to international hiring and visa support.
Start with OPT or CPT to build your case
Cambridge Associates sponsors F-1 OPT and CPT, making these pathways a natural entry point. Demonstrating value during a practical training period strengthens your profile considerably before the firm commits to H-1B sponsorship for a permanent role.
Tailor your application to the firm's client-facing culture
Cambridge Associates serves institutional investors like endowments and foundations. Emphasizing your ability to communicate complex investment ideas clearly signals cultural fit, which matters as much as technical credentials when the firm evaluates international candidates for sponsorship.
Understand that TN is an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals
Cambridge Associates sponsors TN visas in addition to H-1B, which is a meaningful advantage if you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship. TN sponsorship at this firm typically supports finance and economics-related roles that meet the classification's professional requirements.
Time your applications around the H-1B lottery cycle
Cambridge Associates has sponsored H-1B visas, so understanding the April lottery deadline is essential. Begin conversations with recruiters by January to allow time for offer letters, LCA filing, and registration. Missing the window means waiting another full year.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified openings at Cambridge Associates
Cambridge Associates' sponsorship history isn't always obvious from job listings alone. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history and identify open roles at Cambridge Associates without guessing whether international candidates will be considered.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Cambridge Associates sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Cambridge Associates sponsors H-1B visas. Sponsorship is selective rather than high-volume, reflecting the firm's specialized hiring needs in investment consulting, portfolio research, and client advisory services. Candidates with strong quantitative or economics backgrounds in roles that clearly require specialized expertise are the most likely to receive H-1B support.
Which visa types does Cambridge Associates sponsor?
Cambridge Associates sponsors H-1B visas and supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students completing practical training. The firm also sponsors TN visas, which is a valuable option for Canadian and Mexican nationals working in finance or economics roles. Green Card sponsorship is not reflected in the firm's recent filing history.
Which roles or departments at Cambridge Associates are most likely to receive visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at Cambridge Associates is most commonly associated with investment research, portfolio analysis, and consulting roles that require specialized academic credentials in finance, economics, or quantitative fields. Roles requiring a direct connection between a candidate's degree and their day-to-day responsibilities tend to qualify more readily under the specialty occupation standard used for H-1B petitions.
How do I approach the Cambridge Associates application process as an international candidate?
Disclose your visa needs early in the process rather than waiting until an offer stage. Cambridge Associates' recruiting teams are accustomed to sponsorship questions, and being upfront about your status helps both sides assess fit efficiently. Prioritize applying for roles where your degree field directly matches the position, since that alignment is central to the firm's H-1B filing strategy.
How do I find open jobs at Cambridge Associates that offer visa sponsorship?
The most reliable way is to use Migrate Mate, which verifies sponsorship history and filters job listings by visa type. This means you can identify Cambridge Associates openings where international candidates are genuinely considered, rather than applying broadly and discovering late in the process that sponsorship isn't available for a particular role.
