Hybrid: Bellevue, WA (MTW in-office)
Internship Duration: June 1 - August 14, 2026
The Role
We are bringing on an MLE intern this summer to achieve the following:
- Fresh Perspective on SOTA Research: Bring in new academic insights, especially in areas like Transformer-based feature generation or efficient DL training, to challenge our current paradigms.
- Talent Pipeline: As our system scales to tens of billions of data points, we are looking for high-potential talent to tackle future architectural challenges.
- Accelerated Innovation: Utilize the summer window to explore "high-reward" exploratory projects that are crucial for our long-term roadmap and require dedicated, deep-dive research.
What You’ll Do
- Work with a mentor on project planning and execution, including regular check-ins and weekly 1:1s.
- Write code to build and improve ML infrastructure and feature pipelines.
- Perform data exploration, feature engineering, and monitoring features for data quality.
- Collaborate with ML scientists and engineers in daily standups and weekly meetings.
- Present progress and final project results.
Tech Stack
- Languages: Python
- ML Frameworks: PyTorch
- Data Processing: Spark, Ray, or similar distributed frameworks.
- Streaming: Apache Flink, Kafka, or similar systems.
- Infrastructure: Kubernetes, cloud platforms, distributed storage.
- DevOps & Tooling: Git, CI/CD pipelines, GitHub Actions.
Who You Are
- Currently pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- Strong programming skills in Python.
- Experience with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Familiarity with data processing and building ML workflows or pipelines.
- Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, and software engineering fundamentals.
Bonus Points
- Experience with large-scale data systems or distributed processing (e.g., Spark, Flink, Ray).
- Exposure to ML systems or infrastructure (feature pipelines, training pipelines, model evaluation).
- Interest or experience in modern ML approaches (e.g., Transformers, embeddings, LLM-related workflows).
- Familiarity with cloud environments or production systems (e.g., AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD).
Why Join Us?
This internship offers a rare combination of cutting-edge ML research and real-world production systems. Interns will work with large-scale data, modern ML techniques like embeddings and Transformers, and streaming/infra systems used in production. They will own impactful projects, contribute to systems that operate at significant scale, and collaborate with a highly experienced ML team. It’s an ideal opportunity for students who want to go beyond notebooks and gain true ML systems experience, with a strong pathway to full-time roles.
What Success Looks Like
By the end of the internship, the intern will have delivered an end-to-end ML project — from data exploration and feature engineering to building pipelines and running experiments. They will write clean, maintainable code, communicate their results clearly, and take ownership of their work. Success means their work can be used or extended in production and they can effectively collaborate in a fast-paced ML engineering team.

Job Roles at Cognitiv Companies
How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Cognitiv Visa Sponsorship USA
Target engineering and data science roles first
Cognitiv's sponsorship activity is concentrated in technical disciplines. If your background is in machine learning, software engineering, or data analytics, you're applying in the areas where Cognitiv has the strongest history of supporting international candidates through the visa process.
Understand that Cognitiv sponsors multiple visa types
Cognitiv supports both nonimmigrant and immigrant pathways, including H-1B and Green Card sponsorship. If long-term U.S. residency is your goal, ask the recruiter directly about PERM eligibility timelines once you receive an offer.
Use a platform that filters by verified sponsorship history
Not every job posting signals real sponsorship willingness. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, saving you from applying to roles where international candidates are quietly screened out at the offer stage.
Emphasize AI and adtech domain knowledge in your application
Cognitiv operates at the intersection of machine learning and programmatic advertising. Candidates who can speak to real-time bidding systems, predictive modeling, or ad performance optimization are more compelling, and more likely to clear internal sponsorship approval for specialized roles.
Engage with the TN visa option if you're Canadian or Mexican
Cognitiv's TN sponsorship history gives Canadian and Mexican nationals an alternative path that avoids the H-1B lottery entirely. If you qualify for TN under a covered occupation category, raise it early in your conversations with the hiring team.

Does Cognitiv sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Cognitiv sponsors H-1B visas. The company has an active track record of petitioning for H-1B status, particularly for technical roles in software engineering and data science. If you're an international candidate requiring H-1B sponsorship, it's worth confirming the specific role's eligibility directly with the recruiter during early-stage conversations.
Which visa types does Cognitiv sponsor?
Cognitiv sponsors H-1B, Green Card (EB-2 and EB-3), F-1 OPT, and TN visas. This range of pathways means the company can accommodate candidates at different stages of their immigration journey, from students on OPT to professionals seeking permanent residence sponsorship over time.
Which departments or roles at Cognitiv are most likely to receive visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at Cognitiv is most commonly associated with technical roles, including software engineers, machine learning engineers, and data scientists. These positions align with the company's core product in AI-driven advertising technology. Business and operations roles have a less consistent sponsorship history, so it's worth clarifying with the hiring team before investing significant time in those applications.
What does the sponsorship and application timeline look like at Cognitiv?
For H-1B candidates, the critical window is the annual cap registration period in March. If you're interviewing in late 2025 or early 2026, aim to have an offer finalized well before March so Cognitiv can register you in time. OPT and TN pathways move faster and aren't subject to the lottery, but you should still align your start date with your authorization period to avoid gaps.
How do I find open roles at Cognitiv that offer visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists Cognitiv alongside other verified technology companies with documented sponsorship histories, so you can browse roles with confidence rather than guessing from generic job descriptions. Filter by visa type to find positions that match your specific situation, then apply directly through the employer. Checking the listing regularly is worthwhile, as technical openings at AI-focused companies tend to move quickly.
