Assistant Professor/Assistant Clinical Professor of Nursing
ABOUT THIS POSITION
Summary: Colorado Mesa University is seeking two qualified applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Nursing or an Assistant Clinical Professor of Nursing. The standard teaching load is 12 course credit hours per semester or 24 credits over an academic year.
This position seeks candidates with at least two years of medical-surgical and/or critical care nursing expertise. Experience in critical care settings, such as ICU, Emergency Department, or Telemetry, is highly preferred, though not required.
This position carries ongoing responsibility for curriculum development, planning, teaching, guiding, monitoring, and evaluating student learning in the classroom and clinical practice settings to support continuous improvement of courses and clinical experiences. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Willingness to teach across nursing programs based on departmental needs.
- Teaching theory, laboratory, and/or clinical components in nursing education programs.
- Teaching and evaluating assigned courses.
- Supervising student performance of clinical skills in the lab and/or clinical settings (clinical faculty-to-student ratio is not more than 1:10).
- Promoting positive and productive relationships with service area hospitals, clinics, and agencies.
- Participating in program, department, and university assessment and accreditation activities.
- Participating in academic advising and guidance of students.
- Attending program and department faculty meetings.
- Providing students with a detailed course syllabus in writing, following CMU Nursing guidelines and timelines.
- Establishing, posting, and keeping a minimum of five office hours weekly over four days during each term of the academic year.
- Establishing necessary procedures to ensure that adequate and accurate records of student performance are maintained.
- Developing and maintaining:
- An active scholarship portfolio (for tenure-track Assistant Professor), or
- Ongoing professional productivity and clinical expertise (Assistant Clinical Professor).
- Providing service to the program, department, university, and external community.
- Participating in program, department, and university events including commencement.
- Maintaining timely and satisfactory performance of responsibilities specified in the faculty member's employment agreement and CMU Professional Employee Handbook.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required Qualifications
- Eligible for or holding a current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Colorado.
- Minimum of two years of full-time professional clinical nursing experience, with preference given to candidates with experience in critical care settings (ICU, ED, Telemetry).
- Graduate degree in Nursing (PhD or DNP preferred) from a national accredited school of nursing.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills related to:
- Adult learning principles
- Teaching methodology
- Curriculum development and evaluation
- Or a written plan for obtaining such knowledge beginning no later than the first year of teaching.
