Get your CDL credentials transfer-ready
If you hold a commercial license from outside the U.S., start the state CDL equivalency process early. Costco's distribution and delivery roles require a valid U.S. CDL, and licensing timelines vary by state, so sort this before applying.
Target warehouse locations with distribution operations
Costco's highest Driver hiring volume sits in its regional depots and cross-dock facilities, not storefront locations. Search specifically for depot or distribution center postings, as those roles are more likely to involve dedicated sponsorship-eligible positions.
Clarify your visa category before the offer stage
Driver roles at Costco can be supported under H-1B, TN, or F-1 OPT depending on your background and qualifications. Know which category fits your situation before a recruiter asks, so you're not scrambling to explain your status mid-process.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Driver jobs by sponsorship
Not every Costco Driver posting is sponsorship-eligible. Use Migrate Mate to browse verified Driver openings at Costco Wholesale filtered by visa type, so you're applying to roles where sponsorship is already confirmed and not guessing from the job description.
Align your DOT medical certificate with the timeline
Federal DOT physical certification is required for commercial drivers, and USCIS processing for an H-1B petition runs several months. Coordinate your medical certificate renewal so it stays valid through your anticipated start date and I-94 admission period.
Ask HR directly about PERM versus cap-exempt filing
For EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card paths, Costco's HR team handles PERM labor certification through DOL. Ask the recruiter early whether they have prior PERM experience for Driver roles, since it signals whether the team is set up to move efficiently.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Costco Wholesale sponsor H-1B visas for Drivers?
Yes, Costco Wholesale does sponsor H-1B visas for Driver roles, though not every opening is eligible. Sponsorship is more common for positions tied to distribution and logistics operations. You'll want to confirm sponsorship eligibility directly with the recruiter, as it can vary by location and the specific role type within the Driver function.
How do I apply for Driver jobs at Costco Wholesale?
You can search for Driver openings through Costco's careers site or on Migrate Mate, which filters Costco postings by visa sponsorship eligibility. When applying, make sure your resume reflects relevant commercial driving experience, any CDL class held, and your current work authorization status. Having your DOT medical certification current before applying strengthens your candidacy.
Which visa types are commonly used for Driver roles at Costco Wholesale?
Costco has supported H-1B, TN visa, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1 visa, and EB-2/EB-3 Green Card pathways for Driver roles. TN visas are relevant for Canadian and Mexican nationals who qualify under USMCA. F-1 OPT is an option for recent graduates with relevant transportation or logistics degrees seeking practical training in this function.
What qualifications does Costco Wholesale expect for sponsored Driver roles?
Costco typically expects a valid U.S. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for roles involving heavy vehicles, along with a clean driving record and current DOT medical certification. For sponsored positions, a degree or documented specialized training in transportation, logistics, or a related field can strengthen the case for H-1B specialty occupation classification or EB-3 eligibility.
How do I navigate the timeline between a job offer and my visa start date?
H-1B petitions filed under regular processing take three to five months for USCIS to adjudicate. If your OPT or current status expires before an H-1B approval, gap coverage through a timely cap-gap extension may apply for F-1 holders. Align your offer acceptance and CDL renewal with your anticipated I-94 start date to avoid a lapse in work authorization.
