Target roles that align with H-1B specialty occupations
Davidson College's sponsorship history is concentrated in H-1B visas, which require a specialty occupation tied to a specific degree field. Focus your applications on faculty, research, and professional staff roles where degree requirements are clearly defined.
Understand that liberal arts colleges hire on academic cycles
Higher education hiring at institutions like Davidson typically follows the academic calendar. Faculty searches often open in the fall for positions starting the following year, so timing your outreach and applications to that cycle improves your chances significantly.
Explore staff and administrative roles, not just faculty positions
Davidson's sponsorship extends beyond the classroom. Professional staff roles in areas like IT, student affairs, and institutional research can qualify for H-1B sponsorship, broadening your options if you don't have an academic background.
Check for OPT-friendly roles if you're transitioning from F-1 status
Davidson College sponsors F-1 OPT, which means they're open to hiring candidates already in the U.S. on student visas. If your OPT period is active, leading with that can lower the barrier to entry before a full H-1B petition is needed.
Research the department before applying
Davidson is a small college, which means each department hires infrequently. Researching the specific team, its current faculty or staff, and recent publications or initiatives shows genuine interest and helps you stand out in a competitive, relationship-driven hiring process.
