Map your degree to AbbVie's specialty occupation criteria
AbbVie's E-3 roles require a direct field match between your degree and the position. Pull the exact job title from the posting and cross-reference it against O*NET to confirm your qualification aligns before applying.
Target roles in AbbVie's pipeline-heavy divisions
Clinical development, regulatory affairs, and pharmaceutical sciences at AbbVie regularly require specialty occupation talent. These divisions have sustained hiring activity because drug pipeline work demands credentialed professionals in narrowly defined scientific fields.
Confirm AbbVie's prevailing wage before salary negotiations
Your offered salary must meet DOL prevailing wage requirements for your role and work location. Run the position's SOC code through OFLC Wage Search before entering negotiations so you know the floor AbbVie must meet on your LCA.
Ask HR about LCA timing during the offer stage
AbbVie's HR or immigration team files your LCA with DOL before you can apply at the consulate. Ask explicitly when the LCA will be submitted after you accept the offer, since DOL certification typically takes up to seven business days.
Use Migrate Mate to search AbbVie's verified E-3 filing history
Before applying, pull AbbVie's E-3 filing history on Migrate Mate to see which job titles and locations they've sponsored. This tells you where your application has the clearest precedent and which teams have filed E-3 LCAs before.
Prepare your specialty occupation evidence before your consulate interview
Consular officers at Australian posts assess specialty occupation eligibility independently. Bring your degree transcripts, a detailed job offer letter specifying the role's degree requirement, and the certified LCA to your interview to preempt any USCIS-style documentation requests.
AbbVie E-3 Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does AbbVie sponsor E-3 visas?
Yes, AbbVie sponsors E-3 visas for Australian nationals in qualifying specialty occupation roles. Sponsorship is most consistent in scientific, clinical, and regulatory functions where a specific degree field is a genuine job requirement. You'll need a confirmed job offer and a role that meets the E-3 specialty occupation definition before AbbVie can initiate the LCA filing.
Which departments at AbbVie typically sponsor E-3 visas?
E-3 sponsorship at AbbVie is most common in roles tied to its pharmaceutical pipeline: clinical development, regulatory affairs, pharmaceutical sciences, medical affairs, and biostatistics. These functions require degree-specific expertise that satisfies the specialty occupation requirement. Corporate functions like finance or HR are less likely to meet the E-3 bar unless the role has a clearly defined degree requirement.
How do I start the E-3 application process at AbbVie?
Once you receive and accept a job offer, AbbVie's immigration team files a Labor Condition Application with DOL on your behalf. After DOL certifies the LCA, you complete your DS-160, pay the MRV fee, and schedule a consulate interview in Australia. AbbVie doesn't file a petition with USCIS for E-3 visas, which simplifies the process compared to H-1B visa sponsorship.
How long does E-3 sponsorship take at AbbVie?
The LCA stage typically takes up to seven business days once AbbVie submits it to DOL. Consulate appointment availability in Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth determines the remaining timeline, which can range from a few weeks to a few months depending on current wait times. Most applicants can expect a total timeline of four to eight weeks from LCA filing to visa issuance in straightforward cases.
How do I find E-3 jobs at AbbVie currently open to Australian nationals?
Search AbbVie's careers page filtered by your target function and location, then verify which open roles have a clear specialty occupation degree requirement. Migrate Mate lists AbbVie jobs filtered for E-3 LCA filing history, so you can focus on positions where AbbVie has an established sponsorship track record rather than starting the conversation from scratch with a recruiter.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 sponsorship at AbbVie?
E-3 employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, determined when they file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, ensuring Australian hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
