Target engineering and project development roles
EDP Renewables' core business in wind and solar development drives the most international hiring. Roles in project engineering, grid interconnection, and energy resource assessment are where sponsorship has historically been concentrated, prioritize these when applying.
Understand the full visa pathway EDP Renewables offers
EDP Renewables sponsors both work visas and Green Cards, which matters if you're thinking long-term. Confirm during interviews whether the role supports a full immigration pathway, not just initial work authorization, that distinction shapes your career planning significantly.
Apply early in the H-1B season if you need cap-subject sponsorship
If you need H-1B sponsorship from EDP Renewables, get your application materials ready well before March. Cap-subject petitions require employer buy-in before the lottery window opens, so early conversations with their HR team are critical.
Leverage your OPT or CPT to get a foot in the door
EDP Renewables participates in F-1 OPT and CPT programs. Starting in a role on OPT gives you time to demonstrate value before the company commits to full H-1B sponsorship, a common and effective pathway in the renewable energy industry.
Research open roles by real sponsorship history before applying
Not every job posting makes sponsorship eligibility clear. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, helping you focus your energy on EDP Renewables roles where international candidates have a genuine shot.
Highlight expertise in U.S. energy markets and permitting
EDP Renewables operates across complex U.S. regulatory environments. Candidates with knowledge of FERC processes, state-level permitting, or interconnection queues stand out in a field where domain expertise is harder to find than general engineering skill.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does EDP Renewables sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, EDP Renewables sponsors H-1B visas. The company has an active sponsorship track record and has filed H-1B petitions for roles across its U.S. renewable energy operations. Sponsorship is most common in technical and engineering functions tied to project development, though availability depends on the specific role and business need at the time of hiring.
Which visa types does EDP Renewables sponsor?
EDP Renewables sponsors H-1B visas for skilled workers, employment-based Green Cards (EB-2 and EB-3) for permanent residence, and supports F-1 students through both OPT and CPT programs. The company also sponsors TN visas for eligible Canadian and Mexican nationals. This range of visa types makes EDP Renewables a strong option for international candidates at various stages of their immigration journey.
Which departments at EDP Renewables are most likely to sponsor international candidates?
Technical and project-facing roles have historically driven the most international hiring at EDP Renewables. This includes project engineering, energy resource assessment, grid interconnection, and development functions tied to the company's wind and solar portfolio. Candidates in these disciplines should focus their applications accordingly, as sponsorship in administrative or support functions is less common.
How do I find open sponsored roles at EDP Renewables?
The most reliable approach is to search for EDP Renewables on Migrate Mate, which aggregates roles from verified sponsors and lets you filter by visa type and company. This saves time compared to manually checking whether a posting includes sponsorship, since Migrate Mate validates sponsorship history before surfacing a company's listings.
How do I approach the application process at EDP Renewables as an international candidate?
Be upfront about your visa status early in the process, EDP Renewables has sponsored international candidates before and is familiar with the process. If you're on OPT, emphasize your authorization period and any STEM extension eligibility. For H-1B sponsorship, align your application timeline with the annual cap season and raise the topic with the recruiter before an offer is extended to avoid late-stage complications.
