Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Nursing Jobs at Family Health Centers of San Diego Jobs
Obtain a State Nursing License Early
California requires RN licensure through the California Board of Registered Nursing before you can practice. Start the endorsement or NCLEX process well ahead of any offer, since licensing delays are the most common reason sponsorship timelines slip at healthcare employers like FHCSD.
Target Community Health Roles Specifically
Family Health Centers of San Diego operates as a Federally Qualified Health Center, meaning most nursing openings are in community and outpatient settings. Filtering your search to FQHC roles sharpens your applications and signals genuine alignment with their patient population and care model.
Browse Open Positions Through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to find and track nursing roles at Family Health Centers of San Diego that are open to visa sponsorship. Filtering by visa type upfront saves time and ensures you're only pursuing openings where international candidates are genuinely considered.
Clarify Visa Type Before Accepting an Offer
Family Health Centers of San Diego sponsors multiple visa categories for nursing roles. Before signing, confirm in writing whether your offer involves H-1B, TN, or an employment-based Green Card pathway, since each has different filing timelines, employer obligations, and caps through USCIS.
Prepare CGFNS and Credential Verification Documents
For internationally trained nurses, U.S. employers require credential evaluation through CGFNS or a NACES-recognized agency before DOL and USCIS filings can proceed. Have your evaluation completed and ready, as this step alone can add months to an otherwise straightforward sponsorship process.
Understand PERM Requirements for Green Card Sponsorship
If FHCSD offers EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, the employer must complete a PERM labor certification with the DOL before filing your immigrant petition. Ask your HR contact early whether the role is already pre-certified or whether the PERM process needs to start from scratch.

Does Family Health Centers of San Diego sponsor H-1B visas for Nurses?
Yes, Family Health Centers of San Diego has sponsored H-1B visas for nursing roles. Because H-1B nursing petitions require the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, your role typically needs to involve specialized clinical responsibilities and a degree requirement. Your employer files the H-1B petition with USCIS after securing a certified Labor Condition Application from the DOL.
Which visa types are commonly used for Nursing roles at Family Health Centers of San Diego?
Family Health Centers of San Diego sponsors several visa categories for nursing staff, including H-1B, TN (for Canadian and Mexican nurses), F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates, and employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. The right visa depends on your nationality, degree, and career stage. TN is often the fastest path for eligible Canadian or Mexican RNs.
What qualifications and experience are expected for Nursing positions at Family Health Centers of San Diego?
Most nursing roles at Family Health Centers of San Diego require an active California RN license, a relevant nursing degree, and experience in community health, primary care, or ambulatory settings. Bilingual ability in Spanish is frequently preferred given the patient population FHCSD serves. Internationally trained nurses will also need a CGFNS credential evaluation accepted by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
How do I apply for Nursing jobs at Family Health Centers of San Diego?
You can find current nursing openings at Family Health Centers of San Diego on Migrate Mate, where you can filter specifically for roles open to visa sponsorship. Review the job requirements carefully before applying, have your California RN license and credential documents ready, and address your visa status and authorization needs directly in your cover letter to avoid ambiguity early in the process.
How long does the visa sponsorship process typically take for a Nursing role at Family Health Centers of San Diego?
Timelines vary by visa type. An H-1B standard petition with USCIS currently takes several months, with premium processing available for faster adjudication. TN status for Canadian nurses can be obtained at the border in a single day. EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process typically runs 18 to 36 months from start to approval, depending on backlogs and your country of birth.
