Frame your credentials for specialty occupation review
H-1B approval for Instructor roles requires USCIS to confirm the position qualifies as a specialty occupation. Gather official transcripts, credential evaluations for non-U.S. degrees, and syllabi that demonstrate the academic rigor your teaching covers.
Target departments with active faculty searches
FGCU posts Instructor openings by college and department. Identify programs aligned with your field early in the academic hiring cycle, typically late summer through fall, when most tenure-track and visiting faculty searches open for the following academic year.
Clarify sponsorship intent before the campus interview
University HR offices handle visa filings separately from hiring committees. Ask the search committee coordinator whether the department has processed sponsorship for Instructor-level positions before, so there are no surprises after an offer is extended.
Search open Instructor roles on Migrate Mate
Finding Instructor openings at FGCU that explicitly support visa sponsorship takes targeted filtering. Use Migrate Mate to browse verified sponsoring roles at Florida Gulf Coast University and surface positions matched to your visa type.

Find Instructor at Florida Gulf Coast University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Florida Gulf Coast University sponsor H-1B visas for Instructors?
Yes, Florida Gulf Coast University sponsors H-1B visas for Instructor roles. As a public university and eligible H-1B employer, FGCU can file cap-subject and cap-exempt petitions depending on the position. Instructor roles that require a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific academic discipline typically qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS guidelines.
How do I apply for Instructor jobs at Florida Gulf Coast University?
Applications for Instructor positions at FGCU are submitted through the university's official careers portal. Most postings require a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching philosophy statement, and contact information for professional references. Some departments also request sample syllabi or evidence of teaching effectiveness. Migrate Mate lists current openings at FGCU filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility, which makes it easier to identify roles before applying directly.
Which visa types does Florida Gulf Coast University commonly use for Instructor roles?
FGCU sponsors H-1B visas for qualified Instructors and supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways for long-term faculty. F-1 OPT and CPT are accepted for recent graduates entering Instructor or graduate teaching roles. TN status is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in eligible academic disciplines, making it a faster alternative to H-1B for those who qualify.
What qualifications are expected for Instructor positions at Florida Gulf Coast University?
Most Instructor roles at FGCU require at minimum a master's degree in the relevant discipline, though some departments expect a terminal degree such as a Ph.D. or MFA. Prior teaching experience at the university level strengthens an application considerably. For H-1B purposes, your degree field must align directly with the subject matter you'll be teaching, which USCIS scrutinizes during the specialty occupation determination.
How do I navigate the H-1B filing timeline when accepting an Instructor offer from FGCU?
If you're not already in H-1B status, timing depends on your current visa. Cap-subject H-1B petitions have an April 1 filing window for an October 1 start date, so an offer made in spring may require a delayed start. If you're transferring from another H-1B employer, FGCU can file a transfer petition and you may begin work once it's received by USCIS, not just approved.
