Associate Director of Strategy & Operations, MBA Program Office | McDonough School of Business - Georgetown University
This position is responsible for assisting in the effective delivery of an exceptional MBA experience for approximately 950+ Full-time, Flex, and Flex Online MBA students. This includes activities and responsibilities relating to both the academic and co-curricular components of the MBA program.
Associate Directors serve as academic advisors for multiple cohorts of students in each class of either the Full-time, Flex, or Flex Online MBA Program—overall 140-210 students, depending on which program and cohort they are currently advising. Academic advising involves regular communication with students regarding curriculum planning, degree progress, and academic difficulties (if any). They are responsible for outreach and problem solving for students struggling with academics which may include communicating with faculty, connecting students to tutors, meeting weekly to assess progress, and helping students with prioritization, time management, and study skills. Associate Directors must also serve as a critical part of a student’s “safety net,” ensuring they are aware of available resources for any mental, emotional, or physical challenges. Successfully advising these diverse groups of students requires not just a solid understanding of a complicated program with many different details and policies, but also the ability to assess, interpret, and advise based on the unique situations and backgrounds of each student. Meetings with these students happen frequently and all throughout the day and at times, evenings.
This position includes a variety of competing priorities and is well suited for someone who enjoys juggling multiple projects and adapting quickly to a fast-paced environment.
As needed, they also serve as general liaison with other university offices (e.g., University Registrar, Academic Resource Center, Counseling and Psychiatric Service, Office of Global Studies) to support students with any other academic or personal issues.
This Associate Director will also play an instrumental role in the co-curricular development and support of MBA students, and the oversight planning, execution, and budgeting of programming that contribute to the overall student experience.
Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
- Managing the MBA Program Ambassadors Initiative
- Planning and executing a week-long MBA Orientation
- Creating and implementing community programming related to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
- Creating and implementing wellness and “cura personalis” initiatives for MBA students
- Monitoring and improving student platforms such as MyHoyaMBA, HoyaConnect (CampusGroups), and Canvas
Work Interactions
The Associate Director reports to the Assistant Dean for Strategy and Operations, MBA Programs and works closely with all colleagues across the MBA Program Office. The Associate Director collaborates extensively with partners across Georgetown University and the McDonough School of Business, including Finance & Procurement, Human Resources, the McDonough Career Center, MBA Admissions, MSB Facilities, the Global Operations Team, and Student Affairs groups (e.g., GradGov), Events, as well as external partners such as CampusGroups (HoyaConnect) and other vendors.
The Associate Director will join a team of ten student services professionals dedicated to promoting excellence across the MBA student experience. This role supports both the academic experience (e.g., curriculum planning, registration, graduation audits) and the co-curricular experience (e.g., student government, student organizations, leadership development, celebratory events, and graduation). While team members hold primary responsibility for specific portfolios, the team operates in a collaborative, cross-functional structure where colleagues support one another as needed.
Associate Directors will have managerial opportunities, including supervising assistant directors, support staff, graduate students, and/or undergraduate student assistants, and will also have responsibility to create and deliver projects that affect students’ experiences while at MSB. Rather than primarily executing and implementing projects and policies, Associate Directors are expected to take leadership roles on critical programming and initiatives including orientation, graduation, academic registration, and academic planning. This will require interactions with MBA students, business executives, alumni, university administrators/officials and professors, vendors and external parties. Associate Directors in the MBA Program Office must think critically, work independently, and demonstrate not just mastery of policies and procedures, but the ability to assess and adjust to the needs of individual students and the changing landscape of graduate higher education.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 4 to 5 years of relevant work experience
- Experience working in student services and/or higher education
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong time management skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Self-starter with sound judgment, professionalism, and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills, with a collaborative and student-centered approach.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace, including Google Sheets/Excel; familiarity with database software or student information systems is a plus.
- Enjoys working with students from diverse backgrounds and is committed to supporting an inclusive community
