Job Title: Embedded Software Engineer
Location: Southfield, Michigan
Client: Marelli
Experience Level: Mid-Level
Industry: Automotive Embedded Systems
Job Summary:
We are looking for a Software Triage Engineer to support an Automotive Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) ECU program by owning fast, accurate issue triage and driving problems to closure. This role is highly hands-on and requires strong programming + debugging, excellent log analysis, and practical experience with software flashing/reflashing in a lab and vehicle environment. You’ll work closely with Software, Systems, Validation, and Manufacturing to reproduce issues, identify root cause, and help the team deliver stable releases with low customer risk.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own end-to-end triage for software issues from multiple sources (customer reports, validation, manufacturing, integration, field).
- Reproduce issues reliably using structured methods; capture evidence (logs, traces, screenshots, dumps) and define clear steps-to-reproduce.
- Perform log analysis (serial/UART, CAN/LIN traces, application logs, DLT or equivalent) and correlate events across time to isolate failures.
- Execute and support software flashing/reflashing (bench + vehicle), including update validation, version tracking, and rollback when needed.
- Debug embedded issues using IDE/debugger tools (breakpoints, watchpoints, memory inspection), and support deeper RCA with developers/architects.
- Write small utilities/scripts (often Python) to automate log parsing, data extraction, and repetitive validation steps.
- Perform code-level investigations in C (read/understand code, identify suspect areas, propose fixes or mitigation ideas).
- Create high-quality issue reports in Jira (or similar): symptom summary, reproduction steps, logs, suspected modules, severity, priority, and impact.
- Coordinate across teams to drive closure: track ownership, follow up on actions, verify fixes, and confirm issue resolution in new builds.
- Support integration activities and release readiness by identifying top recurring issues, trends, and high-risk areas.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science / Electronics (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years of embedded software triage and debugging experience (automotive strongly preferred).
- Strong programming skills in C and ability to debug issues on target hardware.
- Proven experience with log/trace analysis and building clear failure narratives from raw data.
- Hands-on experience with software flashing tools and workflows (bench + ECU/vehicle).
- Strong communication and coordination skills—able to work calmly and effectively in issue-heavy situations.
Preferred Skills:
- Instrument cluster or closely related ECU domain experience.
- AUTOSAR familiarity and common ECU building blocks (Diagnostics/UDS, DTCs, NVM concepts, startup/watchdog).
- CAN tools and traces (Vector CANoe/CANalyzer or equivalent); basic network understanding (CAN IDs, signals, bus load).
- Experience with version control (Git), ticketing (Jira), and build/release processes.
- Exposure to MCU platforms such as Infineon Traveo II or Renesas.

Align your resume to client-facing deliverables
Global Connect Technologies staffs Embedded roles on consulting engagements, so your resume should highlight project-based work, client environments, and hardware or firmware deliverables rather than internal R&D. Hiring managers here are matching you to billable client needs.
Verify your OPT end date before applying
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your remaining authorization window before submitting applications. Global Connect Technologies sponsors CPT and OPT, but consulting firms need enough runway to onboard you and place you on a project before your status expires.
Ask specifically which visa types the role supports
Global Connect Technologies sponsors H-1B and TN in addition to OPT and CPT. During recruiter screening, ask which categories the specific Embedded opening is approved for, since staffing engagements can vary by contract and client site requirements.
Prepare your credentials for specialty occupation documentation
For H-1B sponsorship, USCIS requires the Embedded role to qualify as a specialty occupation. Gather your transcripts, degree equivalency evaluations if your credentials are foreign, and any certifications in embedded systems or real-time operating environments before the offer stage.
Target openings during Q1 for H-1B cap timing
If you need cap-subject H-1B sponsorship, Global Connect Technologies must file your petition in April for the following October start. Securing an offer by late January gives the company time to prepare the Labor Condition Application with DOL before the USCIS registration window opens.
Browse verified Embedded openings on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Embedded roles at Global Connect Technologies by visa type. This lets you confirm which specific postings are actively open and sponsorship-eligible before reaching out to a recruiter, saving time on applications the company isn't staffing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Global Connect Technologies sponsor H-1B visas for Embeddeds?
Yes, Global Connect Technologies sponsors H-1B visas for Embedded roles. Because the company operates in consulting and professional services, your position will need to qualify as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards, which typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related engineering or computer science field. Your employer will file the petition, but you should have your academic credentials organized in advance.
Which visa types are commonly used for Embedded roles at Global Connect Technologies?
Global Connect Technologies supports H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and TN visas for Embedded positions. F-1 OPT and CPT are common entry points for recent graduates, while H-1B is the standard long-term path. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles. The right category depends on your citizenship, degree, and how much time remains on your current authorization.
What qualifications or experience are expected for Embedded roles at Global Connect Technologies?
Global Connect Technologies typically looks for candidates with a background in embedded systems, firmware development, real-time operating systems, or hardware-software integration. Because the company places Embedded professionals in consulting engagements, experience working across multiple client environments or industries strengthens your profile. A relevant bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science is generally expected, and professional certifications in embedded platforms can support your application.
How do I apply for Embedded jobs at Global Connect Technologies?
You can find and apply for Embedded openings at Global Connect Technologies through Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship type so you can confirm eligibility before applying. Once you identify a relevant posting, apply directly and be prepared to discuss your visa status clearly during the recruiter screen. Consulting firms move quickly on technical roles, so having your resume and credentials ready before you apply reduces delays.
How do I time my application to align with H-1B filing deadlines at Global Connect Technologies?
USCIS opens H-1B cap registration in March each year, with petitions filed in April for an October 1 start date. To give Global Connect Technologies enough lead time, target a signed offer by January or February so the company can prepare your Labor Condition Application with DOL and complete internal approval steps before the registration window opens. Starting too late in the cycle means waiting another full year if the cap deadline passes.
