About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on Embedded Software Engineer to implement advanced algorithms on vehicle cellular communication modules. In this role, you will work extensively with C++ (preferred), Linux (Yocto), and Qualcomm controllers. You will be responsible for reading large volumes of source code, writing moderate amounts of production code, and conducting in-vehicle algorithm tests. While the algorithms will be designed by GM, you will be expected to develop them robustly using C++ on Linux.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement uplink and downlink outage detection algorithms on vehicle cellular modules.
- Design & develop advanced 5G link diagnostics mechanisms using inputs across multiple layers of the 5G communication stack.
- Accurately detect 5G link issues and classify root causes across the end-to-end communication chain.
- Identify, expose, and utilize low-level cellular metrics by modifying cellular module source code.
- Produce clear diagnostic reports explaining issue causes and potential resolutions.
- Perform extensive in-vehicle algorithm testing and validation.
Required Technical Skills
Programming & OS:
- Strong proficiency in C/C++ (C++ preferred) and Python.
- Deep experience with Linux-based embedded environments (specifically Yocto).
Cellular & Networking:
- Deep understanding of:
- 5G cellular architecture
- TCP/IP networking
- Cross-layer network diagnostics
- Hands-on experience with Cellular communication modules (e.g., Qualcomm platforms, specifically 525M or similar controllers).
- Cellular know-how is required – even without direct hands-on experience, you must understand the theory and stack.
Debugging & Development:
- Ability to analyze and modify low-level source code (significant source code reading; moderate writing).
- Strong debugging, testing, and validation skills.
- Knowledge of Wi-Fi systems and device connectivity behavior is a plus.
Preferred Background
- 5+ years of relevant hands-on experience (MS or BS degree).
- Experience with in-vehicle or automotive communication systems.
- Comfortable working with pre-existing algorithm designs (provided by GM) and implementing them in production-grade C++.

Align your portfolio to client-facing deliverables
Consulting firms like Global Connect Technologies staff developers on client projects, not internal products. Prepare case studies that show you've owned specific outcomes for external stakeholders, not just contributed to internal codebases.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Software Developer roles
Global Connect Technologies posts Software Developer positions across different practice areas. Use Migrate Mate to browse current openings filtered by visa type so you target roles that match your specific work authorization status.
Confirm TN eligibility against your exact job description
TN status for Software Developers requires the role to qualify as a professional under USMCA. The DOL and USCIS look at actual duties, not job titles, so verify your offer letter's language reflects qualifying functions before your border crossing.
Prepare for technical screens that mirror consulting project demands
Global Connect Technologies interviews often test applied problem-solving over abstract algorithms. Practicing system design scenarios tied to enterprise client environments, such as data integration or workflow automation, reflects the work you'd actually be sponsored to do.

Does Global Connect Technologies sponsor H-1B visas for Software Developers?
Yes, Global Connect Technologies sponsors H-1B visas for Software Developer roles. As a consulting firm, the company has an established pattern of filing H-1B petitions for technical staff. If you're on F-1 OPT and need H-1B sponsorship, confirm with the recruiter that the specific role you're applying for is included in their annual April lottery filing cycle.
Which visa types are commonly used for Software Developer roles at Global Connect Technologies?
Global Connect Technologies sponsors H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and TN visas for Software Developers. F-1 CPT and OPT are common entry points for recent graduates joining the company before H-1B lottery selection. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN status depending on how the role's duties are documented.
What qualifications or experience are expected for Software Developer roles at Global Connect Technologies?
Most Software Developer roles in consulting require a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Global Connect Technologies typically expects familiarity with enterprise technologies, client delivery environments, and at least one area of specialization such as cloud infrastructure, application development, or data engineering. A degree-to-role match also matters for H-1B specialty occupation requirements.
How do I apply for Software Developer jobs at Global Connect Technologies?
You can find current Software Developer openings at Global Connect Technologies on Migrate Mate, which filters jobs by visa sponsorship type so you can confirm the role supports your status before applying. When you apply, tailor your resume to reflect project-based outcomes relevant to consulting environments and be prepared for a technical screen followed by a client-fit interview.
How do I understand the timeline from offer to work authorization for a Software Developer role?
The timeline depends on your visa type. F-1 CPT can be activated before graduation with DSO approval. OPT authorization from USCIS takes up to 90 days to process, so apply early. H-1B petitions filed under cap require lottery selection in March with an October 1 start date at the earliest. TN status can often be obtained at a port of entry the same day with proper documentation.
