About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on Embedded Software Engineer to implement advanced algorithms on vehicle cellular communication modules. In this role, you will work extensively with C++ (preferred), Linux (Yocto), and Qualcomm controllers. You will be responsible for reading large volumes of source code, writing moderate amounts of production code, and conducting in-vehicle algorithm tests. While the algorithms will be designed by GM, you will be expected to develop them robustly using C++ on Linux.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement uplink and downlink outage detection algorithms on vehicle cellular modules.
- Design & develop advanced 5G link diagnostics mechanisms using inputs across multiple layers of the 5G communication stack.
- Accurately detect 5G link issues and classify root causes across the end-to-end communication chain.
- Identify, expose, and utilize low-level cellular metrics by modifying cellular module source code.
- Produce clear diagnostic reports explaining issue causes and potential resolutions.
- Perform extensive in-vehicle algorithm testing and validation.
Required Technical Skills
Programming & OS:
- Strong proficiency in C/C++ (C++ preferred) and Python.
- Deep experience with Linux-based embedded environments (specifically Yocto).
Cellular & Networking:
- Deep understanding of:
- 5G cellular architecture
- TCP/IP networking
- Cross-layer network diagnostics
- Hands-on experience with Cellular communication modules (e.g., Qualcomm platforms, specifically 525M or similar controllers).
- Cellular know-how is required – even without direct hands-on experience, you must understand the theory and stack.
Debugging & Development:
- Ability to analyze and modify low-level source code (significant source code reading; moderate writing).
- Strong debugging, testing, and validation skills.
- Knowledge of Wi-Fi systems and device connectivity behavior is a plus.
Preferred Background
- 5+ years of relevant hands-on experience (MS or BS degree).
- Experience with in-vehicle or automotive communication systems.
- Comfortable working with pre-existing algorithm designs (provided by GM) and implementing them in production-grade C++.

Align your resume to client-facing deliverables
Consulting firms evaluate Software Engineers on project outcomes, not just technical skills. Highlight experience working across multiple client environments, delivering integrated solutions, or supporting enterprise systems, since these map directly to billable consulting roles.
Target roles with active client project pipelines
Global Connect Technologies sponsors visas tied to specific client engagements. Applying when a project pipeline is active increases your chances of a timely offer, since sponsorship decisions often follow contract wins rather than a fixed annual hiring cycle.
Prepare for a cap-subject H-1B timeline
H-1B registration opens in March and employment can't begin before October 1 if selected in the lottery. Discuss this timeline with your recruiter upfront so both sides plan around the April-to-October gap without letting the offer lapse.
Use Migrate Mate to identify open Software Engineer roles
Filtering for visa-sponsoring employers in consulting is time-consuming through general job boards. Use Migrate Mate to browse Software Engineer positions at Global Connect Technologies specifically, filtered by the visa types you need.
Confirm LCA prevailing wage tier before negotiating salary
Your employer files a Labor Condition Application with DOL before your H-1B petition. The LCA locks in a prevailing wage level for your location and role, so understand which wage tier applies to your specific Software Engineer position before finalizing compensation.

Find Software Engineer at Global Connect Technologies JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Global Connect Technologies sponsor H-1B visas for Software Engineers?
Yes, Global Connect Technologies sponsors H-1B visas for Software Engineer roles. The company operates in consulting and professional services, where project-based staffing makes H-1B sponsorship a standard part of hiring technical talent. Because H-1B is cap-subject, your petition must be filed in April for an October 1 start, so timing your offer accordingly is important.
Which visa types does Global Connect Technologies commonly use for Software Engineer roles?
Global Connect Technologies sponsors H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and TN visas for Software Engineers. F-1 CPT and OPT are common entry points for international students moving into consulting roles. Canadian and Mexican nationals in eligible software occupations can pursue the TN visa, which has no annual cap and no lottery, making it faster to activate than H-1B.
What qualifications does Global Connect Technologies expect for Software Engineer positions?
Most Software Engineer roles at Global Connect Technologies require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field, which also satisfies the specialty occupation requirement for H-1B eligibility. Consulting firms typically prioritize hands-on experience with enterprise platforms, systems integration, or client-facing delivery in addition to core programming and architecture skills.
How do I apply for Software Engineer jobs at Global Connect Technologies?
You can browse open Software Engineer positions at Global Connect Technologies on Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship type so you can confirm eligibility before applying. When you apply, tailor your resume to consulting-specific deliverables and be ready to discuss your current visa status and timeline early in the recruiter screening, since sponsorship logistics influence offer timing.
How do I manage the timing between an offer and H-1B activation at a consulting firm?
If you receive an offer requiring H-1B sponsorship, your employment on that visa cannot begin before October 1 following an April lottery selection. Many consulting firms bridge this gap by keeping candidates on OPT or CPT until the H-1B takes effect. Clarify this bridging plan with your recruiter before signing, and confirm your OPT expiration date aligns with the October activation window.
