Align your portfolio with GIS and data tools
Langan's Software Engineer roles often support geospatial analysis, site assessment platforms, and internal engineering workflows. Tailor your portfolio to show experience with GIS tools, data pipelines, or web applications that serve technical, field-oriented teams rather than consumer products.
Confirm your visa category before applying
Langan sponsors H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, and Green Card pathways, but not every role is budgeted for every category. Before your first interview, clarify which visa types the specific team has used for Software Engineers to avoid late-stage surprises during the offer process.
Use Migrate Mate to target open Software Engineer roles
Langan posts Software Engineer openings across multiple offices and project verticals. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Langan roles that match your visa type, so you're applying where sponsorship is already part of the hiring plan.
Request LCA certification timelines early in negotiations
Before USCIS can adjudicate an H-1B petition, your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with DOL. For consulting firms like Langan, where project staffing shifts frequently, confirm the LCA filing is initiated promptly after your offer letter is signed to protect your start date.
Prepare degree equivalency documentation ahead of interviews
If your computer science or engineering degree is from a non-U.S. institution, get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved agency before your final interview rounds. Consulting firms like Langan typically need this to satisfy USCIS specialty occupation requirements for Software Engineer petitions.
Account for OPT cap-gap if your H-1B is pending
If you're on F-1 OPT and your H-1B is filed by April 1 for an October 1 start, cap-gap protection extends your work authorization automatically. Provide Langan's HR team with your updated I-20 reflecting the cap-gap extension so payroll compliance stays uninterrupted.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Langan Engineering and Environmental Services sponsor H-1B visas for Software Engineers?
Yes, Langan sponsors H-1B visas for Software Engineer roles. As an engineering and environmental consulting firm, their Software Engineer positions typically qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria, which requires a theoretical and practical application of a body of highly specialized knowledge. You'll want to confirm sponsorship availability with the specific hiring team during the interview process, as project budgets can vary by office.
How do I apply for Software Engineer jobs at Langan Engineering and Environmental Services?
You can apply directly through Langan's careers page or browse their current Software Engineer openings filtered by visa type using Migrate Mate. When applying, tailor your resume to highlight technical skills relevant to engineering consulting workflows, such as data management systems, geospatial tools, or internal platform development. Mentioning your visa status and timeline early in your cover letter helps Langan's recruiting team route your application appropriately.
Which visa types does Langan Engineering and Environmental Services commonly use for Software Engineer roles?
Langan sponsors several visa categories for Software Engineers, including H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN visa, J-1 visa, and Green Card pathways such as EB-2 and EB-3. F-1 OPT is common for recent graduates entering the role before H-1B sponsorship begins. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering or technology occupations. Green Card sponsorship through PERM labor certification is available for longer-tenure employees.
What qualifications does Langan Engineering and Environmental Services expect from Software Engineer candidates?
Langan typically looks for candidates with a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. For USCIS H-1B purposes, the degree must be in a field directly applicable to the role. Beyond credentials, Langan values experience building internal tools, data platforms, or applications that support engineering and environmental project delivery, which differs from typical product-focused software roles at technology companies.
How do I handle the timeline between an offer and my H-1B start date at Langan?
H-1B employment at Langan can't begin before October 1 for cap-subject petitions filed in the April lottery. If you're transitioning from F-1 OPT, cap-gap rules through USCIS allow you to continue working as long as your petition was filed before your OPT expired. Plan for at least four to six months between offer acceptance and petition approval, and ask Langan's HR team whether they use USCIS premium processing to expedite the I-129 adjudication timeline.
