Verify your LMSW licensure before applying
Good Shepherd Services requires New York State licensure for most clinical roles. If your foreign credentials need evaluation, use an NACES-approved agency early so the timeline doesn't delay your start date or complicate your visa petition filing.
Target community mental health postings specifically
Good Shepherd Services runs programs across youth development, foster care, and family support. Mental Health Counseling openings tied to these programs are the most likely to carry sponsorship approval, so filter your search by program type rather than applying broadly.
Ask about the LCA filing stage during interviews
Before an employer files an H-1B1 or TN petition, DOL must certify a Labor Condition Application confirming prevailing wage compliance. Confirm with Good Shepherd Services HR whether this is handled in-house or through outside immigration counsel so you know who to follow up with.
Clarify OPT or CPT authorization with HR early
If you're on F-1 status, Good Shepherd Services must verify your employment authorization through E-Verify before your start date. Bring your EAD card and I-20 with OPT authorization to any offer conversation so paperwork doesn't stall onboarding.
Use Migrate Mate to find active Mental Health Counseling openings
Good Shepherd Services posts roles across multiple programs at different times. Use Migrate Mate to filter Mental Health Counseling jobs specifically at Good Shepherd Services with confirmed visa sponsorship, so you're applying to live openings rather than outdated listings.
Align your clinical specialty with current program needs
Good Shepherd Services prioritizes counselors with experience in trauma-informed care, child welfare, or family systems work. Framing your application around these specialties, rather than general counseling experience, strengthens both your candidacy and the employer's case for sponsoring a niche hire.

Find Mental Health Counseling at Good Shepherd Services JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Good Shepherd Services sponsor H-1B visas for Mental Health Counselors?
Good Shepherd Services has sponsored visa petitions for Mental Health Counseling roles, including H-1B1 classifications. Sponsorship is not guaranteed for every opening, and availability depends on the specific program, funding structure, and whether the role meets the specialty occupation threshold. Confirming sponsorship directly with HR during the interview process is the most reliable approach.
How do I apply for Mental Health Counseling jobs at Good Shepherd Services?
Applications go through Good Shepherd Services' careers portal, where postings are listed by program and location. Tailor your resume to highlight direct experience with youth, families, or community mental health populations, since these align with their core service areas. You can also browse verified sponsorship-confirmed openings through Migrate Mate to identify the most relevant active roles before applying.
Which visa types does Good Shepherd Services commonly use for Mental Health Counseling roles?
Good Shepherd Services has sponsored candidates under H-1B1, TN, J-1, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT classifications for Mental Health Counseling positions. J-1 is common for clinical training placements, while H-1B1 and TN apply to Australians, Singaporeans, Canadians, and Mexicans in full-time roles. F-1 OPT is typically used for recent graduates completing their authorized post-graduation work period.
What qualifications does Good Shepherd Services expect for Mental Health Counseling roles?
Most roles require a master's degree in social work, counseling, or a related clinical field, along with New York State licensure such as an LMSW or LMHC. If your degree was earned outside the U.S., you'll need a credential evaluation from an NACES-approved organization before applying. Experience in trauma-informed care, child welfare, or community-based mental health settings strengthens your candidacy significantly.
How long does the visa sponsorship process typically take for a Mental Health Counseling role at Good Shepherd Services?
Timeline depends on visa type. TN visas for Canadians can be processed at the border in a single day. H-1B1 petitions filed with USCIS typically take two to four months under standard processing. J-1 placements require a sponsoring exchange program and can take six to ten weeks. Starting conversations with HR about sponsorship well before your current work authorization expires gives you the most flexibility.
