Get Your MSW Licensure Process Started Early
New York requires an LMSW or LCSW for most clinical social work roles. Start your licensure application as soon as you have your degree in hand, since delays can affect your start date and complicate visa filing timelines.
Target Community Program Roles Specifically
Good Shepherd Services staffs social workers across foster care, youth development, and family support programs. Applying to roles that match your direct practice experience narrows the field and signals a genuine fit to hiring managers reviewing your application.
Use OPT or CPT to Build Your Case File
If you're on F-1 status, completing a supervised field placement or internship at a Healthcare and Medical Services organization builds the documented clinical hours many states require for licensure and strengthens a future H-1B sponsorship request.
Ask HR About the LCA Filing Step Directly
Before an H-1B petition is filed with USCIS, your employer must get a Labor Condition Application certified by the DOL. Asking Good Shepherd Services HR about this step upfront shows preparation and helps you track where the process stands.
Browse Open Roles Before Reaching Out
Search for Social Work positions at Good Shepherd Services on Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for employers with visa sponsorship history. Applying through a targeted list means you're spending time on roles where sponsorship is a realistic outcome.

Find Social Work at Good Shepherd Services JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Good Shepherd Services sponsor H-1B visas for Social Workers?
Good Shepherd Services does sponsor work visas for Social Work roles, including H-1B1 for eligible nationals. Social work qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS rules when the role requires at least a bachelor's degree in social work or a directly related field. Confirming the specific visa pathway that applies to your nationality and status is a practical first conversation to have with the HR team during the offer stage.
How do I apply for Social Work jobs at Good Shepherd Services?
Browse open Social Work positions at Good Shepherd Services through Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles at employers with a verified visa sponsorship history. When you apply, tailor your resume to the specific program area, whether that's foster care, family support, or youth services, and indicate your visa status clearly in your application so the hiring team can plan accordingly from the start.
Which visa types does Good Shepherd Services use for Social Work roles?
Good Shepherd Services has sponsored social workers on H-1B1, TN, J-1, and F-1 OPT or CPT, depending on the candidate's nationality and current immigration status. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying social work roles. J-1 is common for training or exchange-based placements. F-1 OPT and CPT work for students actively completing or recently finishing an accredited social work program.
What qualifications does Good Shepherd Services expect for Social Work positions?
Most roles require a Master of Social Work degree from a CSWE-accredited program, and clinical positions typically require New York State LMSW licensure at minimum. Relevant experience in child welfare, community mental health, or family services aligns well with the populations Good Shepherd Services serves. Candidates with supervised clinical hours and documented practice in underserved communities are consistently competitive for these positions.
How do I plan my timeline if I need visa sponsorship for a Social Work role?
For H-1B pathways, factor in the DOL Labor Condition Application process before USCIS filing, which adds several weeks to the overall timeline. If you're on F-1 OPT, your 60-day grace period after program completion is not work-authorized, so securing an offer and initiating sponsorship before OPT expires is critical. Starting the conversation with Good Shepherd Services HR about sponsorship during the offer stage, not after, gives both sides enough lead time to file correctly.
