Align your credentials with PERM requirements early
PERM labor certification requires your employer to prove no qualified U.S. worker is available for your exact role. Review Joby Aviation's job postings carefully and ensure your degree, specialization, and experience match the minimum requirements listed, not just what you actually do on the job.
Identify which Green Card pathway fits your profile
Joby Aviation typically files EB-2 or EB-3 petitions for engineering and technical roles, depending on the position's degree requirements. If you hold an advanced degree in aerospace or electrical engineering, an EB-2 National Interest Waiver may also be viable, bypassing the PERM process entirely.
Target teams with active immigration infrastructure
Green Card sponsorship at Joby Aviation tends to concentrate in avionics, flight software, and propulsion engineering, where specialized international talent is harder to source domestically. Prioritize applications to these teams, and ask hiring managers directly about their sponsorship track record during early-stage conversations.
Use Migrate Mate to verify Joby Aviation's filing history
Before accepting an offer, confirm that Joby Aviation has sponsored your specific occupation code before. Migrate Mate surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application data by employer and role, so you can see which positions have historically received immigration support before you're deep into negotiations.
Benchmark your offered salary against prevailing wage levels
PERM certification requires Joby Aviation to pay you at least the prevailing wage for your occupation and location. Cross-check your offer against the OFLC Wage Search before signing. Aerospace engineering roles in Santa Cruz County often fall into higher wage tiers than national averages suggest.
Negotiate Green Card sponsorship into your offer letter explicitly
Don't assume sponsorship is automatic because Joby Aviation has filed before. Get a written commitment in your offer or employment agreement specifying the pathway (EB-2 or EB-3) and the company's responsibility for PERM and I-140 filing costs before you resign from your current position.
Joby Aviation Green Card Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Joby Aviation sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, Joby Aviation sponsors Green Card visas for eligible employees, primarily in engineering, avionics, and software roles. The company files PERM labor certifications and I-140 immigrant petitions through EB-2 and EB-3 pathways. Sponsorship is typically initiated after an employee has demonstrated performance and role stability, not at the point of hire.
Which roles and departments at Joby Aviation typically receive Green Card sponsorship?
Green Card sponsorship at Joby Aviation is most active in technically specialized roles: propulsion engineers, avionics software engineers, flight controls engineers, and battery systems researchers. These positions require niche expertise that Joby actively recruits internationally for, making them the most likely to come with a formal sponsorship commitment.
How do I navigate the Green Card process at Joby Aviation as an employee?
Joby Aviation typically manages PERM labor certification and I-140 filing through its in-house legal team or an outside immigration firm. Your role is to provide accurate employment history, education credentials, and any required foreign degree evaluations on time. Delays in document submission from the employee side are the most common cause of PERM processing setbacks.
How long does the Green Card process take at Joby Aviation?
The timeline depends on your nationality and the EB category. PERM certification alone takes six to twelve months with USCIS. After I-140 approval, applicants from countries with visa backlogs, particularly India and China, may wait years before a visa number becomes available. Nationals from most other countries move through the process significantly faster.
How do I find open Green Card jobs at Joby Aviation?
Migrate Mate lists Joby Aviation roles filtered for Green Card sponsorship history, so you can identify positions that have received immigration support rather than guessing from the job description alone. Cross-referencing open roles with the company's historical PERM filings by occupation code gives you the clearest signal of where sponsorship is likely.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at Joby Aviation?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
