Job Description:
Airbus US Manufacturing Facility is looking for an Aviation Production Support Technician (Contract) to join our Final Assembly Line based in Mobile, AL.
Airbus is seeking a detail-oriented individual to join our aviation team as a Production Support Technician. You will be responsible for the precision cleaning of aircraft components—removing metallic debris and chemical residues—as well as maintaining the organization and cleanliness of our specialized tooling and production environment.

Your working environment:
Nearby on ‘Airbus Way’ you will find the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility for commercial aircraft. Opened at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley in 2015, the facility produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. The facility, which strengthens the U.S. aerospace industry, is part of Airbus’ strategy to enhance its global competitiveness by meeting the growing needs of its customers in the United States and beyond.
Your challenges:
Primary Responsibilities:
Clean as you go: 40%
- Perform intermediate cleaning steps during the drilling process to prevent the contamination (metal shavings, oil, sealant).
- Scrape sealant before curing time to reduce customer presentation preparation time.
- Containment at Source: Implement active cleaning techniques to capture metal shavings and oil at the point of generation, preventing debris from migrating to other sections of the aircraft.
- Real-Time Disposal: Ensure all scrap, used wipes, and other waste are disposed of immediately in designated containers to keep the workspace clear and avoid FOD migration.
Customer presentation preparation: 50%
- Debris Removal: Utilize industrial vacuums and specialized scrapers to remove metal shavings (swarf), dust, and particles from tight aircraft structures.
- Chemical Cleaning: Apply qualified solvents and cleaning agents to remove oils, greases, and excess sealant according to technical specifications.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure all surfaces meet "white-glove" standards to meet quality criteria according to technical specifications.
5S and general cleaning of the station: 10%
- Protection cleaning: Ensure all returned protection are clean before installed on the aircraft.
- Platform floor cleaning: Perform cleaning of the floor platform and work surfaces once a shift.
- Jigs and tool cleaning: During downtime, put in place a rotation to clean the jigs and tools on the station and open broken tool report if tool identified broken.
- Tool boxes inventories and issues declaration.
Your boarding pass:
- Attention to Detail: Ability to spot minor defects or debris in complex assemblies.
- Technical Literacy: Ability to read and follow "Qualified Product Lists" (QPL) to ensure the correct chemicals are used on specific alloys.
- Physical Stamina: Comfortable working in confined spaces for extended periods, at heights on platforms.
- Safety Mindset: Strict adherence to PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and FOD (Foreign Object Debris) prevention protocols.
- Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Required: 1-3 years experience working with cleaning operations.
- Preferred: 2-4 years experience working with cleaning operations in an aviation manufacturing or repair environment.
- Prior experience working in a LEAN Environment.
- Must be able to work in confined spaces.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations regarding confined space entry, respiratory protection, proper use of PPE, fall protection, hazardous communications and other relevant regulations.
- Must be able to transition work platforms and ladders safely.
- Must be able to use basic hand tools such as screwdrivers, scrapers, wrenches, etc.
- Keep tools and support equipment in safe operating condition at all times.
- English: Spoken and written.
- Eligible for employment in the US.
This position is a temporary (contract) position with no specific time period but could be extended or shortened as needed. Contractors are employed by a 3rd party vendor and placed on assignment to Airbus in America.
Physical Requirements:
- Vision: Able to see and utilize fine work tools, computer screens, able to move through the office and from point to point to find specific co-workers and in-house expats.
- Hearing: Able to normal conversations and respond to warnings and signals. Carrying: able to carry up to 40 lbs. on occasion.
- Speaking: Able to participate in normal business conversations.
- Carrying: Able to occasionally carry up to 20lbs/9kg while engaging in training, addressing production issues or as part of continuous improvement projects.
- Lifting: Able to lift up to 40 lbs.
- Climb or Balance: Able to climb or balance in production areas.
- Pushing/Pulling: Able to push/pull items in office areas and on the shop floor.
- Sitting: Able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on the computer.
- Squatting/Kneeling: Able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.
- Standing: Able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor.
- Travel/Mobility: Able to travel independently and at short notice.
- Walking: Able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.
- Personal Protective Equipment required: Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site.
- Administrative position only PPE required: Steel-toed shoes are required for all shop floor visits, appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required when visiting the shop floor.
