Target teams with consistent H-1B sponsorship history
Amazon's software development, machine learning, and cloud infrastructure teams have the strongest track record of H-1B sponsorship. Focusing your applications on these areas improves your chances of landing a role where sponsorship is routine, not exceptional.
Understand Amazon's hiring bar before you apply
Amazon uses a structured, competency-based interview process centered on its Leadership Principles. Preparing specific examples that demonstrate those principles, not just technical skills, is what separates candidates who advance from those who don't.
Apply early in Amazon's hiring cycles
Amazon recruits year-round, but H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed by April for an October start. Targeting roles in the second half of the year gives you more time to clear interviews and allow Amazon's legal team to prepare your petition.
Be transparent about your visa status from the start
Amazon's recruiting teams are experienced with H-1B sponsorship, so disclosing your status early avoids wasted time. Recruiters can route your application to teams with confirmed sponsorship budget, which is especially useful in competitive Technology & Software hiring environments.
Use platforms that verify sponsorship history, not just job listings
Generic job boards don't distinguish between employers who sponsor regularly and those who sponsored once. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, saving time when targeting companies like Amazon.
Leverage Amazon's internal mobility once you're in
Amazon employees on H-1B can transfer between teams and roles without restarting the cap process, as long as the change is considered a qualifying continuation. Starting in any sponsored role at Amazon opens doors to lateral moves across the company.
Amazon H-1B Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Amazon sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Amazon sponsors H-1B visas and is one of the most prolific H-1B sponsors in the United States. Sponsorship is standard practice across its core business units, particularly in Technology & Software. Amazon has dedicated immigration legal teams that manage H-1B petitions, making the process more structured than at smaller employers.
Which roles and departments at Amazon typically receive H-1B sponsorship?
Software development engineers, data scientists, machine learning engineers, and technical program managers are the most common H-1B-sponsored roles at Amazon. AWS, Alexa, and Amazon Retail engineering teams are frequent sponsors. Non-technical roles in finance, operations research, and supply chain analytics also see regular H-1B filings, though at lower volume than engineering.
How do I navigate the H-1B application process at Amazon?
Once you receive and accept an offer, Amazon's in-house immigration team or an outside counsel they retain takes over the H-1B filing. You'll provide educational credentials, employment history, and personal documentation. Amazon handles the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor and submits the I-129 petition to USCIS. Your main responsibility is responding to document requests promptly.
How do I find verified H-1B sponsorship jobs at Amazon?
Amazon posts roles across its own careers site, but listings rarely state explicitly whether H-1B sponsorship is available for a specific opening. Migrate Mate aggregates Amazon job listings and cross-references actual H-1B filing data, so you can identify roles and teams with a demonstrated sponsorship history rather than guessing based on job descriptions alone.
What is the H-1B timeline I should expect when working with Amazon?
For cap-subject H-1B petitions, USCIS accepts filings in early April for an October 1 start date. Amazon typically requires several weeks to prepare the petition after your offer is accepted, so most candidates need their offer finalized by late February or early March. With premium processing, USCIS adjudicates within 15 business days. Plan for a six- to nine-month runway from offer to authorized start date.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at Amazon?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
