Align your credentials with specialty occupation requirements
Cedars-Sinai files H-1B petitions for roles that meet USCIS's specialty occupation standard, meaning your degree must directly relate to the position. For clinical and research roles, ensure your foreign credentials are evaluated by a NACES-approved agency before applying.
Target departments with recurring H-1B filings
Clinical research, pharmacy, biomedical engineering, and IT infrastructure at Cedars-Sinai have historically supported H-1B sponsorship. Focus your applications on these departments rather than administrative or support roles, which are less likely to qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria.
Verify your role's prevailing wage before negotiating
Before your offer stage, look up your job title and Los Angeles county wage level using the OFLC Wage Search. Cedars-Sinai's H-1B petitions must certify at or above the prevailing wage, so knowing Level I through Level IV ranges helps you evaluate whether an offer is compliant.
Use Migrate Mate to confirm Cedars-Sinai's LCA filing history
Check Cedars-Sinai's Labor Condition Application filing history by job title and wage level using Migrate Mate before your interview. This tells you which roles the hospital has sponsored before and what salary ranges have been certified, so you're negotiating from verified data, not assumptions.
Engage HR about sponsorship policy during the offer stage
Cedars-Sinai handles H-1B petitions through its in-house immigration team, not third-party agencies. Ask HR directly whether the role has an established sponsorship track and whether they file standard or premium processing, since cap-subject filings must be submitted before the April 1 USCIS deadline.
Prepare for an RFE if your degree field is adjacent
For roles like health informatics, clinical data science, or bioinformatics, USCIS sometimes issues Requests for Evidence questioning the degree-to-role nexus. Have your transcript, course descriptions, and an expert opinion letter ready before your employer files, so the response timeline doesn't delay your start date.
Cedars-Sinai Medical Center H-1B Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Cedars-Sinai Medical Center sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying roles in clinical care, research, pharmacy, biomedical engineering, and health technology. Sponsorship is handled through the hospital's internal HR and immigration team. Not every open position includes sponsorship, so confirm directly with the hiring team during the recruitment process before accepting an offer.
Which roles and departments at Cedars-Sinai typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship at Cedars-Sinai is most common in roles that meet USCIS's specialty occupation standard. Clinical research coordinators, pharmacists, biomedical engineers, health informatics specialists, and certain nursing and physician roles have historically received sponsorship. Administrative, entry-level support, and non-degree roles are unlikely to qualify. Use Migrate Mate to review which job titles Cedars-Sinai has filed for previously.
How do I navigate the H-1B application process at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center?
Once you receive a job offer, Cedars-Sinai's HR team initiates the H-1B process internally. They file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL, then submit the I-129 petition to USCIS. You'll need to provide credentials, transcripts, and passport information. If you're already in the U.S. on OPT or another visa, a change of status may be filed concurrently with the petition.
How long does H-1B processing take at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center?
Standard H-1B processing through USCIS takes roughly three to six months from petition filing. Cedars-Sinai may request premium processing for time-sensitive hires, which guarantees a decision within 15 business days. Cap-subject petitions must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start date. Plan credential evaluations and document collection at least 60 days before your intended filing window.
What can I do to strengthen my H-1B application at Cedars-Sinai?
Start by confirming your degree directly supports the specialty occupation definition USCIS applies to your target role. Have foreign credentials evaluated early, check the prevailing wage for your job title in Los Angeles using the OFLC Wage Search, and review Cedars-Sinai's LCA filing history on Migrate Mate to identify which roles the hospital has certified before and at what wage levels.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
