Align your credentials with USCIS specialty occupation standards
Erlanger's H-1B filings concentrate in clinical roles requiring a specific degree field, not just any bachelor's degree. Before applying, verify your foreign medical or nursing credentials map directly to the role's educational requirement under USCIS specialty occupation rules, not just general healthcare experience.
Target departments with documented international hiring patterns
Erlanger's H-1B sponsorship skews toward specialty clinical departments like critical care, rehabilitation, and diagnostic services. Focus your applications on these units rather than general administrative roles, which rarely see H-1B filings at regional health systems like Erlanger.
Confirm your license is transferable before the offer stage
Healthcare H-1B petitions at hospital systems require a valid state license or a clear path to one before USCIS will approve. For Tennessee-based Erlanger roles, verify your foreign credential evaluation and state licensure timeline won't delay the I-129 petition filing.
Use Migrate Mate to check Erlanger's LCA filing history
Before your first interview, search Erlanger's Labor Condition Application history on Migrate Mate to see which job titles and wage levels they've certified with DOL. This tells you whether your target role has a documented sponsorship track record before you invest time in the process.
Ask HR directly about the H-1B cap-subject filing window
Erlanger, as a non-profit hospital system, may qualify for cap-exempt H-1B filings through its academic medical affiliations, bypassing the annual April lottery. Clarify this distinction with the recruiter early, since cap-exempt status changes your entire filing timeline and start-date flexibility significantly.
Negotiate your offer letter around the prevailing wage requirement
DOL requires Erlanger to pay at least the prevailing wage for your occupation and work location before certifying the LCA. Cross-check your offered salary against the OFLC Wage Search for your specific SOC code in Hamilton County to confirm compliance before signing.
Erlanger H-1B Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Erlanger sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Erlanger sponsors H-1B visas, primarily for clinical and allied health professionals in specialty roles where U.S. recruitment is competitive. Sponsorship is not offered across all departments, so candidates should confirm H-1B support directly with Erlanger's HR or talent acquisition team during the early stages of recruitment.
Which roles and departments at Erlanger typically receive H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship at Erlanger is most common in specialty clinical areas such as critical care, rehabilitation, and diagnostic imaging, where demand for qualified professionals regularly outpaces local supply. Administrative, support, and general management roles rarely qualify for H-1B sponsorship at regional health systems like Erlanger.
How do I navigate the H-1B application process at Erlanger?
After receiving a conditional offer, Erlanger's HR team coordinates with an immigration attorney to file the Labor Condition Application with DOL, then submits the I-129 petition to USCIS. Your role is to provide credential documentation, state licensure proof, and degree verification promptly, since delays on your end can push the filing outside the target window.
How long does H-1B sponsorship take at a hospital like Erlanger?
Standard H-1B processing through USCIS takes three to five months after the petition is filed. If Erlanger qualifies for cap-exempt status through academic affiliations, filings can happen year-round rather than in the April lottery cycle. Premium processing is available for an additional USCIS fee and reduces the adjudication window to roughly 15 business days.
How do I find H-1B jobs at Erlanger as an international candidate?
Search Migrate Mate to filter for Erlanger openings with verified H-1B sponsorship history, so you're only pursuing roles where the employer has an established filing track record. When you apply, be direct in your cover letter about your H-1B status and your state licensure timeline, since healthcare employers factor both into hiring decisions.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at Erlanger?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
