Align your portfolio to Gensler's studio specialisms
Gensler organizes work across practice areas like workplace, hospitality, and cities. Tailor your portfolio to one or two of these verticals before applying. Hiring managers evaluating H-1B candidates look for demonstrated focus, not a generalist spread of project types.
Verify your role qualifies as a specialty occupation
H-1B eligibility requires that your specific role demands at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. Use O*NET to confirm the occupation's typical education requirements match your credentials before Gensler's HR team initiates the USCIS petition process on your behalf.
Research prevailing wage for your target studio location
Gensler operates studios across high-cost metros like San Francisco, New York, and Washington D.C., each with different prevailing wage levels. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the wage floor for your occupation and location before salary negotiations begin.
Time your application around the H-1B cap filing window
H-1B cap-subject petitions can only be filed once per year, with USCIS accepting registrations in March for an October 1 start date. Secure your Gensler offer well before February so HR has time to work with immigration counsel before the registration window opens.
Use Migrate Mate to identify Gensler's LCA filing history
Before your interview, research which job titles and studio locations Gensler has filed Labor Condition Applications for in the past. Migrate Mate surfaces this DOL data by employer, so you can walk into negotiations knowing exactly which roles have an established H-1B filing track record.
Prepare your credential evaluation before the offer stage
If your architecture or design degree is from outside the U.S., a foreign credential evaluation confirming equivalency to a U.S. bachelor's degree is required for the USCIS petition. Commission this evaluation early so it doesn't delay Gensler's attorney from filing your I-129.
Gensler H-1B Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Gensler sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Gensler sponsors H-1B visas for qualified international candidates across its U.S. studios. Sponsorship is concentrated in design and technical roles, including architecture, interior design, urban planning, and design technology. Gensler has an established process for working with immigration counsel, making it a credible option for candidates who need H-1B sponsorship.
Which roles at Gensler typically receive H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship at Gensler is most consistently associated with roles that require a specialized degree, such as licensed architects, interior designers, urban planners, and computational designers. Roles in project management and design technology that require a directly related bachelor's degree also qualify. Administrative or general operations roles are unlikely to meet the specialty occupation threshold.
How do I start the H-1B application process at Gensler?
The process starts with a job offer from Gensler. Once an offer is extended, Gensler's HR team works with external immigration counsel to file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL and then submit Form I-129 to USCIS during the annual cap filing window. Your role is to provide educational credentials, a valid passport, and any prior immigration documents your attorney requests.
How long does H-1B sponsorship take at Gensler?
For cap-subject candidates, the timeline runs from USCIS registration in March to an October 1 start date if selected in the lottery. That's roughly a six-to-seven-month window from registration to employment authorization. Premium processing, which expedites USCIS adjudication to around fifteen business days, is available and sometimes used by employers to reduce uncertainty after lottery selection.
How do I find open H-1B roles at Gensler?
Search Gensler's careers page directly and filter by U.S. locations where you want to work. For a faster way to identify which Gensler roles have an active H-1B filing history by studio and job title, use Migrate Mate, which surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application data by employer so you can target positions with a documented sponsorship track record.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at Gensler?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
