Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
Inova's H-1B filings concentrate in roles requiring licensure-backed degrees, like RN, PT, and OT positions. Before applying, confirm your foreign degree maps to a U.S. specialty occupation under USCIS criteria, and get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved organization if needed.
Target departments with recurring clinical vacancies
Inova's hospitals and outpatient centers regularly post openings in critical care, rehabilitation, and behavioral health. Focus your applications on those departments rather than administrative roles, which rarely attract H-1B sponsorship because they don't consistently meet specialty occupation degree requirements.
Check prevailing wage before your salary negotiation
Inova must pay you at least the DOL prevailing wage for your role and location. Look up the applicable wage level using the OFLC Wage Search before your offer conversation, so you can negotiate from an informed position rather than accepting a number that barely clears the legal floor.
Use Migrate Mate to verify Inova's LCA filing history
Inova's Labor Condition Application filings are public record and reveal which job titles it has certified, wage levels offered, and work locations covered. Migrate Mate surfaces this data by employer, so you can walk into your interview knowing exactly which roles Inova has sponsored before.
Clarify sponsorship intent before accepting an offer
Healthcare employers sometimes distinguish between sponsoring an H-1B transfer and filing a new cap-subject petition. Before signing, ask Inova's HR team directly whether you'd be subject to the April lottery or if a cap-exempt path applies based on your current status or the role's setting.
Prepare your O*NET occupation profile for the petition
Inova's immigration attorneys will build your I-129 petition around the standard occupational classification for your role. Pulling your O*NET profile in advance lets you confirm the listed degree requirements match your credentials and flag any gaps before they become an RFE during USCIS adjudication.
Inova Health H-1B Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Inova Health sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Inova Health sponsors H-1B visas, primarily for clinical and allied health roles that meet USCIS specialty occupation standards. Sponsorship is most common for positions requiring a specific degree in a directly related field, such as registered nurses, physical therapists, and physician roles across Inova's hospital and outpatient network.
Which roles at Inova Health are most likely to receive H-1B sponsorship?
Inova's H-1B sponsorship concentrates in licensed clinical positions, including nursing, rehabilitation therapy, behavioral health, and physician roles. Administrative, support, and general operations positions rarely qualify because they don't consistently require a degree in a specific specialty field, which is the core USCIS requirement for H-1B classification.
How do I start the H-1B process once Inova Health offers me a job?
After receiving a written offer, Inova's HR or immigration counsel will file a Labor Condition Application with DOL certifying the prevailing wage for your role and location. Once certified, they submit Form I-129 to USCIS. If you're subject to the annual cap, timing depends on the April lottery. You can review Inova's past LCA filings on Migrate Mate to understand their process.
How long does H-1B sponsorship take at Inova Health?
The DOL typically certifies an LCA within seven business days. USCIS standard adjudication for Form I-129 currently runs several months, though premium processing is available for a faster decision. For cap-subject petitions, count backward from the October 1 start date: registration opens in March, and the full timeline from offer to start can span six months or more.
What can I do to strengthen my H-1B application at Inova Health?
Ensure your foreign degree has been evaluated by a NACES-approved credential evaluator before Inova's immigration attorney begins the petition. Confirm your job title appears in past Inova LCA certifications, verify the prevailing wage for your location using the OFLC Wage Search, and ask HR whether your role qualifies for cap-exempt filing based on Inova's institutional affiliations.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at Inova Health?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
