Align your credentials to Jacobs's project types
Jacobs operates across infrastructure, transportation, and environmental sectors, so your resume should reflect project experience in those domains. Highlight licensed engineering credentials and any work on large-scale public contracts, since those map directly to the roles Jacobs files H-1B petitions for.
Target technical roles with degree-specific requirements
H-1B eligibility requires a specialty occupation, meaning your degree must directly relate to the job. Use O*NET to confirm your target role at Jacobs qualifies, then tailor your application to emphasize the specific field-of-study match USCIS scrutinizes during adjudication.
Research prevailing wage before negotiating your offer
Jacobs must pay at least the prevailing wage for your role and location under DOL rules. Run your job title and metro area through the OFLC Wage Search before your offer conversation, so you know whether the compensation Jacobs proposes meets the legal floor for your H-1B petition.
Confirm Jacobs's E-Verify enrollment before accepting
H-1B employers must be E-Verify enrolled. Jacobs participates, which matters if you're on OPT cap-gap, since E-Verify enrollment is required to maintain work authorization during the gap period between your OPT expiration and your H-1B start date on October 1.
Use Migrate Mate to track Jacobs's LCA filing history
Before applying, verify which job titles and office locations Jacobs has filed Labor Condition Applications for. Migrate Mate surfaces this DOL data by employer, so you can identify the exact roles and cities where Jacobs has active H-1B sponsorship history before you invest time in the application process.
Request premium processing clarity during your offer stage
Jacobs controls whether to file with USCIS premium processing, which reduces the adjudication window significantly. Ask your recruiter or HR contact directly whether premium processing is standard practice for your role, especially if your OPT or current status has a hard expiration date approaching.
Jacobs H-1B Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Jacobs sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Jacobs sponsors H-1B visas and has a consistent track record of filing petitions for international professionals in engineering, environmental consulting, infrastructure, and project management. The company operates across multiple U.S. offices, and sponsorship eligibility typically depends on the role's specialty occupation classification and your degree field alignment.
Which departments at Jacobs are most likely to offer H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship at Jacobs is most common in civil and structural engineering, environmental science, transportation planning, and program management. These roles require a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field, which satisfies the specialty occupation requirement USCIS applies when reviewing Jacobs's petitions.
How do I know if a Jacobs job posting is open to H-1B candidates?
Jacobs job postings don't always state H-1B sponsorship explicitly. Use Migrate Mate to review Jacobs's Labor Condition Application history by job title and location, which reflects roles the company has actively sponsored. That data gives you a clearer signal than the job description alone before you apply.
How do I navigate the H-1B process once Jacobs extends an offer?
After Jacobs extends an offer, the employer's immigration team or outside counsel files a Labor Condition Application with DOL, then submits Form I-129 to USCIS. If you're subject to the annual cap, your petition must be filed during the April registration window. New H-1B employment cannot begin before October 1 of that fiscal year.
How long does the H-1B process take at Jacobs?
Timeline depends on whether Jacobs files with USCIS premium processing. Standard adjudication can take several months, while premium processing typically returns a decision within a few weeks. Factor in the DOL's Labor Condition Application certification step, which USCIS requires before the I-129 petition is submitted, adding time to the overall process.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at Jacobs?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
