Align your degree to specialty occupation standards
H-1B eligibility at a construction firm like McCarthy hinges on demonstrating your role requires a specific bachelor's degree or higher. Civil, structural, or mechanical engineering degrees map cleanly to project engineer and design roles. Check the O*NET occupation profile for your target title before applying.
Target project engineer and technical roles first
McCarthy's H-1B filings concentrate in engineering and project delivery functions rather than field operations or administrative roles. Focus your search on openings tied to infrastructure, healthcare, or commercial construction projects, where specialty occupation requirements are easiest for the company to substantiate with USCIS.
Research prevailing wage before salary negotiations
McCarthy must certify your offered wage meets or exceeds the DOL prevailing wage for your role and work location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up wage levels for your occupation and region before discussing compensation, so your expectations align with what the company can legally file.
Confirm H-1B sponsorship intent during the offer stage
Construction firms sometimes classify roles as field-based or non-specialty to avoid H-1B obligations. Get written confirmation that McCarthy's HR or legal team will file the I-129 petition before you accept. Don't assume a verbal commitment translates into an active petition without a documented timeline.
Use Migrate Mate to verify McCarthy's LCA filing history
Before your interview, use Migrate Mate to review McCarthy's Labor Condition Application filings by job title and location. This shows you which roles the company has sponsored, at what wage levels, and in which states, giving you concrete talking points and confirming the firm's sponsorship track record.
Build your H-1B record with CPT and OPT first
If you're on F-1 status, completing an internship or co-op with McCarthy through CPT or OPT creates a documented work history in construction project roles. Employers who already know your performance are more likely to commit to H-1B sponsorship, and your prior authorization simplifies the specialty occupation narrative for USCIS.
McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. H-1B Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, McCarthy Building Companies sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying roles, primarily in engineering and technical project delivery functions. Sponsorship is selective and concentrated in positions where the specialty occupation requirement is clearly supported by the role's degree requirements. Candidates in civil, structural, or mechanical engineering disciplines are the most common beneficiaries of McCarthy's H-1B program.
Which roles and departments typically receive H-1B sponsorship at McCarthy Building Companies?
McCarthy's H-1B sponsorship tends to focus on project engineering, structural design, and construction management roles within its infrastructure, commercial, and healthcare construction divisions. Field-based or general superintendent positions are rarely eligible under H-1B specialty occupation standards. Roles requiring a specific bachelor's degree in engineering or a closely related technical discipline are the strongest candidates for sponsorship.
How do I navigate the H-1B application process at McCarthy Building Companies?
Once McCarthy extends an offer, their HR team coordinates with an immigration attorney to file a Labor Condition Application with DOL and then the I-129 petition with USCIS. You'll need to provide academic credentials, employment verification documents, and a detailed job description. If your start date falls after the annual H-1B cap lottery in April, premium processing is worth raising with HR to meet project onboarding timelines.
What is the typical H-1B sponsorship timeline at McCarthy Building Companies?
Standard H-1B cap-subject petitions require USCIS registration in March, with petitions filed after selection in April for an October 1 start date. If McCarthy files under premium processing, USCIS adjudicates within 15 business days. Cap-exempt scenarios, such as transfers from another H-1B employer, move faster and aren't bound by the October start date, which can be useful for time-sensitive project hires.
How do I find H-1B jobs at McCarthy Building Companies and improve my application?
Migrate Mate lets you search McCarthy's LCA filing history by job title, location, and wage level, so you can identify which roles the company actively sponsors before applying. Pair that research with a resume that explicitly connects your engineering degree to the technical scope of your target role, since McCarthy's immigration team will use that alignment to build the specialty occupation case with USCIS.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at McCarthy Building Companies, Inc.?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
