Department Overview
Mfg production technical support - direct labor department
Job Description
We are looking for a precision-driven Manufacturing Technician to support the production and testing of life-safety communication infrastructure. In this role, you will be the bridge between complex automation and high-precision communication technology. As a Manufacturing Technician, you are the frontline defender of production uptime. You will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting the complex automated and manual test equipment that ensures our products meet the highest quality standards before they leave the factory floor. This role sits at the intersection of hardware, software, and industrial automation.
Key Responsibilities
- Production Support: Provide rapid-response "floor support" to minimize downtime. You’ll identify whether a failure is a "true fail" (product defect) or a "false fail" (test equipment error).
-
Automation & Systems Support: Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot automated manufacturing systems. This includes identifying mechanical, electrical, or software-based bottlenecks in the production flow.
-
Test System Maintenance: Support and optimize automated test equipment. Work closely with the engineering team to implement firmware updates and hardware upgrades. Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on test fixtures, thermal chambers, and automated handling equipment to ensure 100% accuracy.
-
Hardware Troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical failures in test racks, including replacing PCBAs, sensors, pneumatic components, and wiring harnesses including cables.
-
Documentation & Quality: Maintain meticulous records of equipment downtime, test yields, TPM, and repair logs to drive continuous improvement (CI) initiatives.
-
Software Support: Assist engineers in deploying new test scripts and debugging software-to-hardware communication issues.
Additional Qualifications:
- PLC Basics: Understanding of Programmable Logic Controllers (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff) that control the physical movement of products through a test cell.
-
Sensors & Actuators: Troubleshooting the "eyes and hands" of the system—photoelectric sensors, limit switches, and pneumatic cylinders.
-
Robotics: Basic maintenance of 6-axis or SCARA arms (e.g., FANUC, ABB) used to load/unload devices into test fixtures.
Preferred Skills & Certifications
- Experience with IP-based networking as it relates to radio consoles and site links
-
Experience with Robotics and Motion Control
-
Expert-level use of Communication Equipment including Spectrum Analyzers, Signal Generators, and Network Analyzers (VNA) to measure gain, loss, and impedance.
Work Environment
- This role supports equipment used by Police, Fire, and EMS; a high degree of accountability and attention to detail is non-negotiable.
-
Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs and work in a high-tech manufacturing environment.
-
Clean climate controlled work environment.
What Success Looks Like
- Minimize "No Fault Found" (NFF): Reducing the frequency of good units being rejected due to faulty test equipment.
-
Fast MTTR: Maintaining a low Mean Time To Repair for critical test stations.
-
Continuous Improvement: Identifying "wear and tear" trends and suggesting hardware modifications to improve fixture longevity.
Basic Requirements
- 3+ years related experience
- Education: Associates Degree in EET, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related fields

Job Roles at Motorola Solutions
How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Motorola Solutions H-1B Visa Sponsorship Jobs USA
Target engineering and software roles first
Motorola Solutions concentrates H-1B sponsorship in roles tied to its core product lines, radio communications, video security, and command center software. Engineering and software development positions are your strongest entry points for sponsorship consideration.
Understand where manufacturing meets technology
Motorola Solutions sits at the intersection of hardware manufacturing and software development. Roles that combine both, embedded systems, firmware engineering, product integration, often have stronger sponsorship histories than purely operational manufacturing positions.
Apply through official channels early in the cycle
H-1B cap filings happen in early April for an October 1 start. Motorola Solutions needs time to evaluate candidates and prepare petitions, so targeting roles several months before the cap season gives your application the best chance of being included.
Verify sponsorship history before applying
Not every role at a manufacturing company comes with H-1B sponsorship. Use Migrate Mate to filter by verified sponsorship history at Motorola Solutions, so you spend time on positions where sponsorship is genuinely on the table.
Highlight work on public safety or mission-critical systems
Motorola Solutions serves law enforcement, emergency responders, and government agencies. If your experience touches public safety technology, secure communications, or critical infrastructure, lead with that, it aligns directly with their highest-priority product areas.
Be prepared to discuss long-term U.S. project commitments
H-1B sponsorship requires employer investment, and Motorola Solutions evaluates whether candidates will contribute across multi-year product cycles. Demonstrating continuity of purpose, not just current skills, strengthens the case for sponsorship internally.

Does Motorola Solutions sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Motorola Solutions sponsors H-1B visas. The company has a consistent history of sponsoring international workers, particularly in technical roles tied to its engineering, software, and product development divisions. Sponsorship is most common in positions requiring specialized skills in areas like communications technology, embedded systems, and software engineering.
Which roles and departments at Motorola Solutions are most likely to receive H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship at Motorola Solutions is concentrated in engineering and software-focused departments. Roles in radio frequency engineering, software development, systems integration, cybersecurity, and product design have the strongest sponsorship track records. Corporate functions like finance or HR are less likely to include sponsorship, though exceptions exist for highly specialized positions.
How do I navigate the H-1B application process at Motorola Solutions?
Once Motorola Solutions extends a job offer to an H-1B candidate, their immigration legal team files a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor, then submits the H-1B petition to USCIS during the annual cap filing window. As the applicant, your role is to provide documentation of your qualifications, degree credentials, and employment history promptly when requested.
How long does the H-1B sponsorship process take at Motorola Solutions?
The timeline depends on when you receive your offer relative to the H-1B cap cycle. If hired ahead of the April registration window, the full process from registration to an October 1 start date takes roughly six months. Premium processing is available to expedite USCIS adjudication to 15 business days, and many large employers like Motorola Solutions use it to reduce uncertainty.
How do I find H-1B jobs at Motorola Solutions as an international applicant?
Start by identifying open roles that align with Motorola Solutions's core technology areas, communications hardware, video security platforms, and software for emergency services. Migrate Mate lists verified H-1B sponsors and lets you filter specifically for Motorola Solutions roles, helping you avoid positions where sponsorship is unlikely. Tailor your application to the company's public safety mission to stand out.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at Motorola Solutions?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
