Align your credentials to Skanska's project types
Skanska builds hospitals, transit systems, and commercial high-rises, so H-1B specialty occupation approval depends on matching your degree field directly to those project types. A civil or structural engineering degree tied to vertical construction or infrastructure strengthens your petition considerably.
Target project engineer and preconstruction roles
Skanska's H-1B filings concentrate in technical project delivery functions, not general management. Focus your applications on estimating, preconstruction, MEP coordination, and field engineering roles, where a specific bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management is a documented job requirement.
Confirm your role qualifies as a specialty occupation
Before accepting an offer, verify your job title maps to a recognized specialty occupation. Pull the O*NET profile for your occupation code and confirm it lists a specific bachelor's degree as the standard entry requirement, which USCIS uses to evaluate H-1B eligibility.
Use Migrate Mate to check Skanska's LCA filing history
Migrate Mate surfaces Skanska's DOL Labor Condition Application data by job title and location, so you can see which roles and offices have active H-1B filings. Use this before applying to confirm your target position and work site align with Skanska's actual sponsorship activity.
Request premium processing before your start date deadline
Construction project timelines are fixed, and Skanska's project staffing often follows contract award cycles. If your start date is tied to a project mobilization window, ask HR early whether premium processing is available, since standard H-1B adjudication can run several months after cap selection.
Prepare for prevailing wage scrutiny in your work location
Skanska operates across high-cost metros and secondary markets with significant wage variation. Before your offer is finalized, cross-check your offered salary against the applicable prevailing wage level using the OFLC Wage Search tool for your occupation code and specific work location.
Skanska H-1B Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Skanska sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Skanska sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying technical and engineering roles in its U.S. operations. Sponsorship is concentrated in construction management, civil and structural engineering, and preconstruction functions where a specific bachelor's degree is a documented job requirement. Not all open roles qualify, so confirming specialty occupation status before applying is important.
Which departments at Skanska are most likely to sponsor H-1B visas?
H-1B sponsorship at Skanska is most common in project engineering, estimating, preconstruction, and MEP coordination roles. These positions require degree-specific technical expertise that supports the specialty occupation standard. General superintendent, craft labor, and administrative roles typically don't qualify for H-1B sponsorship because they don't require a specific bachelor's degree field.
How do I navigate the H-1B application process at Skanska?
Skanska works with outside immigration counsel to file H-1B petitions on behalf of selected candidates. After receiving an offer, your HR contact will connect you with the firm's immigration team. You'll provide educational credentials, passport details, and employment documentation. Skanska files the Labor Condition Application with DOL before USCIS receives the petition.
How long does H-1B sponsorship take at Skanska?
If you're subject to the annual H-1B cap, the process begins with lottery registration each March, with an October 1 start date if selected. From petition filing to USCIS approval, standard processing can take several months. Premium processing accelerates adjudication significantly. Skanska's project-driven hiring cycles can affect when offers are extended relative to these deadlines.
How do I find H-1B jobs at Skanska that are realistic for sponsorship?
Use Migrate Mate to filter Skanska's verified H-1B job listings by role and location, drawing on DOL LCA filing data to identify positions with active sponsorship history. Focus on engineering and technical titles where Skanska has filed previously. Cross-reference your target role against USCIS specialty occupation criteria before applying to assess your eligibility.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at Skanska?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
