Align your degree to Target's SOC codes
Target's H-1B filings cluster around technology and business occupation codes. Pull the relevant O*NET profile for your target role and confirm your degree field maps directly to the listed education requirements before applying, since USCIS scrutinizes specialty occupation fit closely.
Target Minneapolis headquarters roles first
Most of Target's H-1B sponsorships originate from its corporate campus in Minneapolis, not store operations. Prioritize roles listed under technology, merchandising analytics, supply chain, or enterprise strategy when searching, since those teams have the clearest H-1B filing history in retail.
Verify prevailing wage before salary negotiations
Before your offer conversation, run your job title and metro area through the OFLC Wage Search to find the Level I through Level IV wage range. Target must certify your salary meets or exceeds the prevailing wage on the Labor Condition Application, so knowing the floor protects you.
Use Migrate Mate to confirm Target's LCA history
LCA disclosure data shows exactly which job titles Target has filed for under the H-1B program. Migrate Mate surfaces this by employer so you can confirm your target role has been sponsored before and walk into interviews knowing the precedent, not guessing at it.
Ask about premium processing during offer stage
Standard H-1B adjudication can run several months, which matters if your OPT is expiring. Ask your Target recruiter directly whether the team uses USCIS premium processing, since timing affects your start date and whether a cap-gap bridge applies to your situation.
Document your F-1 work authorization gap clearly
If you're transitioning from OPT or STEM OPT, Target's HR team needs your EAD end date and cap-gap status documented before onboarding. Prepare a one-page authorization summary showing your current status, expiration, and how the H-1B petition bridges the gap.
Target H-1B Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Target sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Target sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying corporate and technology roles, primarily based at its Minneapolis headquarters. Sponsorship is concentrated in software engineering, data science, supply chain analytics, and business strategy functions. Store-level and hourly operations roles are not sponsored under the H-1B program.
Which departments at Target are most likely to sponsor H-1B visas?
Target's strongest H-1B sponsorship activity sits within its technology, digital, and enterprise analytics divisions. Roles in software development, machine learning, merchandising analytics, and supply chain engineering are the most consistent candidates for sponsorship. Corporate strategy and finance roles at the headquarters level have also appeared in past filings.
How do I start the H-1B application process at Target?
The process begins after Target extends a job offer. Target's immigration team or outside counsel then files a Labor Condition Application with DOL, followed by the H-1B petition with USCIS during the annual cap registration period in March. You don't initiate the filing yourself. Your role is to provide employment verification documents and degree credentials promptly when requested.
How long does H-1B sponsorship take at Target?
From registration selection to an approved H-1B, the timeline typically runs six to twelve months under standard processing, depending on USCIS workload and whether Target elects premium processing for your petition. Cap-selected petitions filed in April generally have an October 1 start date. Migrate Mate can help you map your current authorization status against that timeline.
How do I find open H-1B roles at Target that match my background?
Filter your job search to Target's corporate and technology postings in Minneapolis and look for roles where a specific degree field is listed as required rather than preferred. Required field language is what supports a specialty occupation finding under H-1B rules. Cross-referencing your target job title against Target's past LCA filings confirms which roles the company has actively sponsored.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at Target?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
