Target product and engineering roles first
Whatnot's sponsorship activity is concentrated in technical and product functions. If you're in software engineering, data, or product management, you're applying into the roles where Whatnot has the strongest track record of supporting international candidates through the process.
Understand which visa types Whatnot supports
Whatnot sponsors a broad range of visa types including H-1B, E-3, TN, F-1 OPT and CPT, and Green Card pathways. Knowing which category fits your situation before you apply lets you ask informed questions and signals to recruiters that you've done your homework.
Mention your visa status early and clearly
Whatnot's recruiting team is familiar with sponsorship. Being upfront about your visa needs in your first recruiter conversation avoids surprises later and tends to move faster with employers who already have established sponsorship processes in place.
Use Migrate Mate to confirm sponsorship before applying
Not every Whatnot job posting specifies sponsorship eligibility. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history and focus your applications on roles where international candidates have a documented path to approval.
If you're Australian, the E-3 is your fastest path
Whatnot has sponsored E-3 visas, making it a viable option for Australian nationals who want to avoid the H-1B lottery. The E-3 can be processed faster and requires fewer employer-side steps, which can make the conversation easier to start with a hiring manager.
Align your application timeline with Whatnot's hiring cycles
H-1B petitions must be filed by April for an October start date. If you're targeting Whatnot for an H-1B role, aim to have an offer in hand by February or March to give the legal team adequate preparation time before the cap filing window closes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Whatnot sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Whatnot sponsors H-1B visas and has done so consistently across recent hiring cycles. Sponsorship is most common in technical roles such as software engineering, data science, and product. If you're targeting an H-1B, focus your application on those functions and be upfront about your visa needs early in the recruiter conversation.
What visa types does Whatnot sponsor?
Whatnot sponsors a wide range of visa categories including H-1B, E-3 visa, TN visa, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1 visa, and Green Card pathways through EB-2 and EB-3. This breadth makes Whatnot one of the more internationally inclusive employers in the retail-tech space, with options for candidates at different career stages and from different countries.
Which departments at Whatnot are most likely to sponsor international candidates?
Engineering, data, and product teams are where Whatnot's sponsorship activity is most concentrated. These roles require specialized technical skills, and Whatnot has demonstrated a pattern of supporting international talent in these functions. Operations and marketplace roles may also offer sponsorship opportunities, but technical departments represent the most consistent path for visa-sponsored hires.
How do I find open visa-sponsored jobs at Whatnot?
The most reliable way is to use Migrate Mate, which tracks verified sponsorship history by employer and lets you filter for Whatnot roles that are open to international candidates. This saves time compared to manually reviewing job postings that rarely specify sponsorship eligibility upfront, and ensures you're applying to roles with a real sponsorship track record behind them.
How do I approach the sponsorship conversation during Whatnot's hiring process?
Bring up your visa status in the first recruiter screening call rather than waiting until an offer stage. Whatnot has an established sponsorship process and a legal team experienced with immigration filings, so the conversation is unlikely to derail your candidacy. Knowing your visa category, approximate timeline, and whether you need cap-subject H-1B sponsorship versus a cap-exempt or treaty-based option will help the conversation move efficiently.
