Align your credentials to Whatnot's engineering stack
Whatnot builds real-time commerce infrastructure, so highlight experience managing teams on distributed systems, streaming, or marketplace platforms. Your resume needs to show technical depth in the domains Whatnot's development org actually operates in.
Target roles tagged for multiple visa types
Whatnot sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT for Development Managers, which signals genuine flexibility. When you apply, confirm whether the specific role is open to your visa category before reaching out to a recruiter.
Apply before your OPT STEM extension clock runs short
F-1 OPT STEM extensions give you up to 24 additional months, but H-1B cap registration closes in March each year. If you're within six months of your OPT end date, prioritize companies like Whatnot that have filed H-1B petitions for this role.
Clarify LCA timing early in the offer stage
Your employer must file a certified Labor Condition Application with DOL before USCIS can process your H-1B petition. Ask Whatnot's recruiting team which immigration counsel they use and how far in advance they start the LCA for Development Manager hires.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Development Manager openings at Whatnot
Browse Whatnot's active Development Manager listings filtered by visa type on Migrate Mate. It surfaces sponsorship-eligible roles directly, so you're not manually checking each posting to confirm whether your visa category qualifies.
Prepare your management scope documentation before interviews
H-1B specialty occupation approval for Development Managers depends on demonstrating degree-level complexity in the role. Before interviews, document the scope of teams you've led, architectural decisions you've owned, and cross-functional projects, since Whatnot's HR will need this for the petition.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Whatnot sponsor H-1B visas for Development Managers?
Yes, Whatnot sponsors H-1B visas for Development Manager roles. The company has a demonstrated sponsorship history for this function, which means they have established processes with immigration counsel for LCA filing with DOL and H-1B petition submission to USCIS. Confirm sponsorship eligibility for the specific role you're applying to during your initial recruiter screen.
How do I apply for Development Manager jobs at Whatnot?
You can find and apply for Development Manager roles at Whatnot through Migrate Mate, which lists their current openings filtered by visa sponsorship type. Review the role requirements carefully before applying, since Whatnot's Development Manager postings vary by team and product area. Tailor your application to the specific engineering domain the role covers.
Which visa types does Whatnot sponsor for Development Manager roles?
Whatnot sponsors multiple visa categories for Development Managers, including H-1B, E-3 visa, TN visa, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1 visa, and Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. The breadth of categories sponsored reflects an active sponsorship program, though availability for a given visa type may depend on the specific role, team, and hiring cycle.
What qualifications does Whatnot expect for a Development Manager role?
Whatnot typically looks for Development Managers with a background in software engineering and hands-on experience managing engineering teams in a high-growth or consumer technology environment. Given Whatnot's focus on live commerce, experience leading teams building real-time systems, mobile platforms, or marketplace infrastructure is a meaningful differentiator. A relevant bachelor's degree or higher is standard for H-1B specialty occupation eligibility.
How do I plan my timeline when targeting a Development Manager role at Whatnot on a work visa?
If you need H-1B sponsorship, plan around the USCIS cap registration window, which typically opens in March for an October 1 start date. That means securing an offer and completing the LCA process with DOL well before March. For E-3 or TN applicants, timelines are more flexible since those visas aren't subject to an annual cap or lottery.
