Frame Your Experience Around Marketplace Metrics
Whatnot's Business Development roles prioritize candidates who can demonstrate measurable impact on GMV, seller acquisition, or category expansion. Before applying, reframe your resume around pipeline outcomes and revenue-adjacent results, not just relationship management responsibilities.
Confirm Your Visa Type Matches the Role
Whatnot sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT among other visa categories, but sponsorship eligibility can depend on role level and team. Verify your current status and target visa type before reaching out to a recruiter, so you can answer sponsorship questions confidently on the first call.
Target Retail and Collectibles Category Roles First
Whatnot's core growth is in collectibles, trading cards, and adjacent retail verticals. Business Development candidates with category management or buyer-seller marketplace experience in these segments are more likely to clear the specialty occupation threshold USCIS requires for H-1B petitions.
Time Your Application Around H-1B Cap Deadlines
If you need cap-subject H-1B sponsorship, Whatnot must file your petition by the April 1 USCIS deadline for an October 1 start date. Align your interview and offer timeline so the company has enough runway to complete Labor Condition Application filing with DOL before the registration window opens in March.
Use Migrate Mate to Surface Open BD Roles
Whatnot posts Business Development openings across multiple channels and they fill quickly. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for visa-sponsored Business Development positions at Whatnot, so you're applying to roles where sponsorship is already confirmed rather than guessing from a generic job listing.
Prepare for a Specialty Occupation Explanation at Offer Stage
Business Development titles can face USCIS scrutiny over whether the role qualifies as a specialty occupation. Before accepting an offer, ask your employer's immigration counsel how they intend to document that a bachelor's degree in a specific field is a standard requirement for the position.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Whatnot sponsor H-1B visas for Business Development roles?
Yes, Whatnot sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development positions. The company has an active sponsorship track record across this function. Because Business Development roles must qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards, your degree field typically needs to align directly with the responsibilities of the specific role you're hired for, not just the general category.
How do I apply for Business Development jobs at Whatnot?
You can apply directly through Whatnot's careers page or through Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for visa-sponsored Business Development openings at the company. Before applying, confirm the role level matches your experience and that your target visa type is one Whatnot supports. Whatnot's BD roles move quickly, so applying early in a posting's lifecycle improves your odds.
Which visa types does Whatnot commonly use for Business Development positions?
Whatnot sponsors a range of work visa types for Business Development roles, including H-1B, E-3 visa for Australian citizens, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals, and F-1 OPT for recent graduates. EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways are also available for longer-term sponsorship. The right visa depends on your nationality, degree, and current immigration status.
What qualifications does Whatnot look for in Business Development candidates?
Whatnot typically looks for candidates with experience in marketplace growth, seller or partner acquisition, and category development, particularly within retail, collectibles, or e-commerce verticals. For visa sponsorship purposes, your degree should be in a field directly relevant to the role. A background in business, economics, or a related discipline generally supports H-1B specialty occupation documentation.
How long does the sponsorship process take for a Business Development role at Whatnot?
Timeline depends on your visa type. For H-1B sponsorship, the DOL Labor Condition Application takes seven business days minimum, and USCIS standard processing can take three to six months after filing. Premium processing reduces USCIS adjudication to 15 business days. E-3 and TN visas can move faster since they don't require USCIS petition approval in most cases.
