- Build distributed training and inference pipelines leveraging GPUs and both model and data parallelism.
- Stretch beyond your comfort zone to take on new technical challenges as we scale AI across Whatnot’s ecosystem.
US Based: We offer flexibility to work from home or from one of our global office hubs, and we value in-person time for planning, problem-solving, and connection. Team members in this role must live within commuting distance of our New York, Seattle, Los Angeles, and San Francisco hubs.

- Ability to work autonomously and drive initiatives across multiple product areas and communicate findings with leadership and product teams.
- Experience with operational, search, and key-value databases such as PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch, Redis.
- Firm grasp of visualization tools for monitoring and logging e.g. DataDog, Grafana.
- Familiarity with cloud computing platforms and managed services such as AWS Sagemaker, Lambda, Kinesis, S3, EC2, EKS/ECS, Apache Kafka, Flink.

Frame your dbt and warehouse experience clearly
Whatnot's analytics engineering work centers on dbt, Snowflake or BigQuery, and product data modeling. Before applying, make sure your resume explicitly names the tools and frameworks you've used, not just the outcomes. Generic 'data engineering' language won't surface in their technical screens.
Target roles tied to live commerce metrics
Whatnot's core analytics needs revolve around real-time seller and buyer behavior on its live shopping platform. Positioning your experience around event-driven data, funnel analysis, or marketplace metrics makes your application more directly relevant than general retail analytics background.
Confirm E-3 or TN eligibility before your offer stage
If you're Australian or Canadian, Whatnot's sponsorship of E-3 and TN visas means you can bypass the H-1B lottery entirely. Nail down your visa category eligibility before you receive an offer so you can discuss timelines confidently without delaying the process.
Understand F-1 OPT STEM extension timing for this role
Analytics Engineer roles typically qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension. If you're on OPT, your employer must be enrolled in E-Verify, which Whatnot supports. File your STEM extension application at least 90 days before your initial OPT expires to avoid a work authorization gap.
Ask about PERM sponsorship during offer negotiation
If your goal is a Green Card, ask specifically whether Whatnot initiates PERM labor certification for this role and what the typical timeline looks like. EB-2 and EB-3 PERM filings can take one to three years before you even reach the priority date queue, so starting early matters.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Analytics Engineer roles
Whatnot posts Analytics Engineer openings across different product and data teams, and availability shifts regularly. Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles by visa type so you're only applying to positions actively open to sponsorship candidates, not wasting applications on listings that exclude international hires.

Find Analytics Engineer at Whatnot JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Whatnot sponsor H-1B visas for Analytics Engineers?
Yes, Whatnot sponsors H-1B visas for Analytics Engineer roles. Because H-1B approval depends on the annual lottery, candidates on OPT are often already employed at Whatnot when their employer files the H-1B petition in April. If you're not selected in the lottery, Whatnot's sponsorship of E-3 and TN visas offers alternative paths for eligible nationals.
How do I apply for Analytics Engineer jobs at Whatnot?
Applications go through Whatnot's careers page, where roles are listed by team and function. The interview process typically includes a technical screen covering SQL and data modeling, a take-home or live coding exercise using dbt or similar tooling, and a systems design round. Use Migrate Mate to browse currently open Analytics Engineer roles at Whatnot that explicitly support visa sponsorship.
Which visa types does Whatnot support for Analytics Engineer candidates?
Whatnot sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1, and employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for this role. Australians and Canadians often find the E-3 and TN routes faster because they avoid the H-1B lottery. F-1 candidates in STEM fields can typically extend OPT for an additional 24 months, provided Whatnot is enrolled in E-Verify.
What qualifications does Whatnot expect for Analytics Engineer roles?
Whatnot looks for hands-on experience with dbt, a cloud data warehouse like Snowflake or BigQuery, and strong SQL skills. Familiarity with product analytics, event tracking, and building data models for a two-sided marketplace is a clear advantage given the platform's live commerce focus. A background in computer science, statistics, or a related quantitative field supports the specialty occupation standard required for H-1B and E-3 petitions.
How do I plan my timeline if I need Whatnot to file an H-1B petition?
H-1B registrations open in March each year for an October 1 start date. If you're on OPT, you'll need to be working at Whatnot before April and have your employer submit the registration on your behalf. USCIS notifies selected registrants by late March, and petitions are typically filed by June. If you're not selected, explore whether your role qualifies under E-3 or TN as a fallback.
