- Prototype, deploy, and productionalize novel ML architectures that directly shape user experience and marketplace dynamics.
- Design and scale inference infrastructure capable of serving large models with low latency and high throughput.
- Build distributed training and inference pipelines leveraging GPUs and both model and data parallelism.
- Stretch beyond your comfort zone to take on new technical challenges as we scale AI across Whatnot’s ecosystem.
US Based: We offer flexibility to work from home or from one of our global office hubs, and we value in-person time for planning, problem-solving, and connection. Team members in this role must live within commuting distance of our New York, Seattle, Los Angeles, and San Francisco hubs.

- Ability to work autonomously and drive initiatives across multiple product areas and communicate findings with leadership and product teams.
- Experience with operational, search, and key-value databases such as PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch, Redis.
- Firm grasp of visualization tools for monitoring and logging e.g. DataDog, Grafana.
- Familiarity with cloud computing platforms and managed services such as AWS Sagemaker, Lambda, Kinesis, S3, EC2, EKS/ECS, Apache Kafka, Flink.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding AI Engineer Jobs at Whatnot Jobs
Align your portfolio to live commerce problems
Whatnot's AI team works on real-time ranking, personalization, and trust systems for live auction environments. Projects demonstrating low-latency ML inference, recommendation engines, or anomaly detection will resonate far more than generic deep learning work.
Flag OPT cap-gap risk early in negotiations
If your F-1 OPT expires between April and October and you're counting on an H-1B petition, your employment authorization depends on timely USCIS filing. Raise your OPT end date with the recruiter before signing an offer so your start date accounts for this window.
Request premium processing when timelines are tight
USCIS offers premium processing for H-1B petitions with a 15 business day adjudication target. If your current status is expiring or a competing offer has a hard start date, asking Whatnot's immigration team about premium processing can prevent a costly gap.
Use Migrate Mate to find open AI Engineer roles at Whatnot
Whatnot posts AI Engineer openings across multiple channels, and not all of them surface consistently. Migrate Mate filters specifically for visa-sponsoring employers, so you can browse Whatnot's current AI Engineer listings without wading through roles that won't sponsor.
Prepare for specialty occupation documentation
DOL and USCIS require that H-1B and E-3 petitions demonstrate the role qualifies as a specialty occupation. For AI Engineer positions, gather documentation showing your degree field maps directly to the technical requirements in the job description before your employer's attorney begins the petition.

Find AI Engineer at Whatnot JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Whatnot sponsor H-1B visas for AI Engineers?
Yes, Whatnot sponsors H-1B visas for AI Engineer roles. The company has an established immigration process for engineering hires and works with immigration counsel to file petitions. Because H-1B has an annual cap and lottery, timing your application and coordinating with Whatnot's recruiting team well before the April filing window is essential.
Which visa types does Whatnot commonly use for AI Engineer roles?
Whatnot supports H-1B, E-3 (for Australian citizens), TN (for Canadian and Mexican nationals), F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and J-1 visas for AI Engineer hires. E-3 and TN are particularly practical options where eligible, since neither involves a lottery and both allow relatively fast processing compared to cap-subject H-1B petitions.
How do I apply for AI Engineer jobs at Whatnot?
Applications go through Whatnot's careers page, where AI Engineer roles are listed under engineering or product. You can also find current openings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate, which makes it easier to confirm the role actively supports your visa category before you invest time in the application.
What qualifications and experience does Whatnot expect for AI Engineer roles?
Whatnot's AI Engineer roles typically require a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, machine learning, or a closely related field, along with hands-on experience building and deploying production ML systems. Familiarity with real-time inference, ranking models, or trust and safety systems is particularly relevant given the live commerce context of Whatnot's platform.
How do I time the visa sponsorship process when accepting an offer from Whatnot?
The visa type you hold determines the timeline. H-1B petitions must be filed in April for an October 1 start, so offers made after April require bridging on existing status or OPT. E-3 and TN can be processed at consulates in weeks. Clarify your current status expiration with Whatnot's HR team as soon as you receive an offer to avoid gaps in work authorization.
