💻 Role
Shipping is one of the most operationally complex and business-critical parts of Whatnot. It directly shapes buyer trust, seller confidence, CX burden, trust and enforcement decisions, and shipping economics. The Logistics Platform team builds the shared systems, data, and capabilities beneath shipping on Whatnot. That includes core logistics data, tracking and scan normalization, platform interfaces, and the observability and investigation surfaces that other teams rely on. We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Logistics Platform to help make those systems more trustworthy, operable, and easy to build on. This is a product-minded platform role: much of the work is internal-facing, but the impact is very external — better buyer and seller experience, fewer support issues, stronger trust decisions, and better margin outcomes.
As a Software Engineer On Logistics Platform, You Will
- Build and improve source-of-truth systems, APIs, and internal platform interfaces that other teams depend on for logistics workflows and decisions.
- Own backend and platform work across logistics data quality, shipment state normalization, observability, and operational debugging surfaces.
- Partner closely with Product, Data Science, CX, Ops, Trust, and Finance to turn messy real-world logistics problems into durable systems and better user outcomes.
- Improve the correctness, timeliness, and usability of the logistics data that powers support, trust, product, and operational workflows.
- Build tooling, monitoring, and debugging primitives that help teams detect problems earlier and get to truth faster.
- Use AI thoughtfully in day-to-day engineering work to improve quality, learning speed, debugging, and execution — while keeping a strong independent bar for correctness and risk judgment.
We offer flexibility to work from home or from one of our global office hubs, and we value in-person time for planning, problem-solving, and connection. Team members in this role must live within commuting distance of our Los Angeles hub.
👋 You
People who do well at Whatnot tend to be comfortable figuring things out as they go, biased toward action, and genuinely curious about what they're building. They care more about outcomes than credit and stay close to the product and the people using it.
We’re Especially Excited About Candidates Who Have
- Experience building and owning meaningful backend or platform systems in production at the senior scope — i.e. developing and owning moderate-to-complex software, disambiguating meaningful problems, and collaborating effectively with stakeholders and cross-functional partners.
- Strong product judgment and the ability to connect technical work to user impact, business outcomes, and explicit trade-offs.
- Experience in complex marketplace, coordination, delivery, fulfillment, trust, or post-purchase systems where software decisions interact with messy real-world state.
- Strong instincts around data quality, source-of-truth systems, observability, and operational debugging.
- A thoughtful approach to AI: not just using AI for more output, but using it to improve the quality of engineering work while knowing where verification and independent judgment still matter.
- Comfort operating in fast-moving, high-ownership environments with ambiguity and shifting priorities.
Nice To Have
- Experience in adjacent domains like rideshare coordination, food delivery, marketplace fulfillment, trust/risk operations, or order tracking and exception-handling systems.
- Experience working on a marketplace or other two-sided platform.
- Direct experience in logistics, shipping, or fulfillment systems.
🎁 Benefits
- Flexible Time off Policy and Company-wide Holidays (including a spring and winter break)
- Health Insurance options including Medical, Dental, Vision
- Work From Home Support + Home office setup allowance + Monthly allowance for cell phone and internet
- Care benefits + Monthly allowance for wellness + Annual allowance towards Childcare + Lifetime benefit for family planning, such as adoption or fertility expenses
- Retirement; 401k offering for Traditional and Roth accounts in the US (employer match up to 4% of base salary) and Pension plans internationally
- Monthly allowance to dogfood the app + All Whatnauts are expected to develop a deep understanding of our product. We're passionate about building the best user experience, and all employees are expected to use Whatnot as both a buyer and a seller as part of their job (our dogfooding budget makes this fun and easy!).
- Parental Leave + 16 weeks of paid parental leave + one month gradual return to work *company leave allowances run concurrently with country leave requirements which take precedence.
💛 EOE

Job Roles at Whatnot
How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Whatnot H-1B Visa Sponsorship Jobs USA
Target technical roles first
Whatnot's H-1B sponsorship concentrates in software engineering, data science, and product management. Applying to roles in these departments gives you the strongest chance of landing a position that qualifies for H-1B sponsorship at Whatnot.
Confirm sponsorship before applying
Not every open role at Whatnot includes H-1B sponsorship. Check the job listing carefully for sponsorship language, and use Migrate Mate to filter for verified H-1B sponsors so you're only applying to roles where sponsorship is confirmed.
Align your background with live commerce
Whatnot operates at the intersection of retail and technology. Candidates who can connect their engineering or product experience to marketplace platforms, real-time systems, or consumer-facing applications will stand out in the H-1B hiring process.
Understand the H-1B petition timeline
Whatnot will file your H-1B petition with USCIS after you receive an offer. The annual cap lottery runs in March, so timing your job search to align with that window improves your chances of being included in the filing cycle.
Demonstrate specialty occupation clearly
For H-1B approval, your role must qualify as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field. Make sure your resume and interviews clearly reflect the technical depth and degree alignment USCIS requires.
Use your network inside Whatnot
Employee referrals carry weight at fast-growing companies like Whatnot. Connecting with current employees who hold H-1B status can give you insight into the sponsorship process and increase your visibility with the hiring team before you apply.

Does Whatnot sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Whatnot sponsors H-1B visas. The company has a documented history of filing H-1B petitions, primarily for technical roles in engineering, product, and data. Sponsorship availability varies by role and headcount, so confirming sponsorship is offered before investing time in the application process is worthwhile.
Which roles and departments at Whatnot typically receive H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship at Whatnot is most common in software engineering, data science, and product management, where roles typically require specialized degrees that meet the specialty occupation standard. Business operations and marketing roles are less likely to be sponsored, though exceptions exist depending on the seniority and technical nature of the position.
How do I navigate the H-1B application process at Whatnot?
Once Whatnot extends an offer, their immigration team or outside counsel handles the H-1B petition filing on your behalf. The process involves a Labor Condition Application filed with the Department of Labor, followed by the USCIS petition. You'll need to provide educational credentials and employment documentation. Most candidates work through the process with support from Whatnot's legal team.
How do I find H-1B jobs at Whatnot that are open to international candidates?
Migrate Mate surfaces verified H-1B sponsors so you can search Whatnot's open roles and filter specifically for positions that include sponsorship. This saves time compared to manually reviewing job listings that don't disclose sponsorship status upfront. Focus your search on technical and product roles where Whatnot's sponsorship history is strongest.
What is the typical H-1B timeline I should expect when applying to Whatnot?
The H-1B cap lottery opens each March for an October 1 start date. If you receive an offer from Whatnot before the registration window, the company can include you in that year's lottery. Premium processing is available and reduces USCIS adjudication to around 15 business days, though Whatnot's decision to use it varies by case.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at Whatnot?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
