About The Job

Your work will directly impact customers, internal support agents, and the continued expansion of HTS Assist across AI-driven voice and chat. You’ll collaborate closely with Product, Design, AI, Data, and Operations partners to deliver intelligent, scalable customer service systems, including conversational AI workflows, self-service customer journeys, internal tools used by thousands of agents, and infrastructure that enables partner-specific experiences. You’ll report to a Senior Engineering Manager and work alongside engineers focused on platform services, integrations, AI orchestration, and self-service UX.
What Would Your Day-to-day Look Like
- Design, build, and improve the backend and/or full-stack systems that power HTS Assist, internal agent tools, and customer self-serve flows.
- Develop scalable APIs, microservices, and orchestration logic that support complex post-booking journeys across AI, chat, voice, and web.
- Partner with product, design, AI, and operations teams to deliver features that streamline customer experiences and enhance agent efficiency.
- Integrate with external systems, such as telephony, CRM, identity, or booking platforms, to support both internal use cases and partner deployments.
- Own features end-to-end, from technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
- Contribute to architectural decisions, code reviews, reliability improvements, and ongoing enhancements to engineering best practices.
- Analyze system performance and user behavior to identify opportunities for automation, optimization, and cost reduction.
Minimum Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in software engineering, ideally building large-scale distributed systems or customer-facing applications
- A strong technical background with modern frontend and backend development, distributed systems, APIs, and cloud infrastructure
- Experience designing, building, and maintaining RESTful APIs, microservices, or event-driven systems
- Experience with databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, NoSQL) and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or similar)
- Ability to break down complex problems, make pragmatic tradeoffs, and ship iteratively
- Strong communication skills and comfort collaborating with cross-functional teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with conversational AI, LLM orchestration, or automation systems
- Experience building customer service, CRM, telephony, contact center, or workflow automation tools
- Familiarity with Scala/Python, React, TypeScript, or modern frontend frameworks for engineers who want to contribute full-stack
- Experience integrating with external systems (e.g., telephony APIs, identity providers, payment gateways, CRMs)
- Knowledge of travel industry technologies (PSS/GDS, hotel PMS/CRS) is a plus, though not required
More About Hopper
At Hopper, we are on a mission to become the leading travel platform globally – powering Hopper’s mobile app, website and our B2B business, HTS (Hopper Technology Solutions). By leveraging massive amounts of data and advanced machine learning algorithms, Hopper combines its world-class travel agency offering with proprietary fintech products to bring transparency, flexibility and savings to travelers globally. We have developed several unique fintech solutions that address everything from pricing volatility to trip disruptions – helping people travel better and save more on their trips. The Hopper platform serves hundreds of millions of travelers globally and continues to capture market share around the world. The Hopper app has been downloaded over 120 million times and has become largely popular among younger travelers – with 70% of its users being Gen Z and millennials. While everyone knows us as the Gen Z and Millennial travel app, Hopper has evolved to become much more than that. In recent years, we’ve grown into a travel fintech provider, commerce platform, and global travel agency that powers some of the world’s largest brands. Through HTS, our B2B division, the company supercharges its partners’ direct channels by integrating our fintech products on their sites or powering end-to-end travel portals. Today, our partners include leading travel brands like Capital One, Nubank, Air Canada, and many more.
Here are just a few stats that demonstrate the company’s recent growth:
- Billions of dollars worth of travel and travel fintech are sold through Hopper and HTS channels every year.
- Our fintech products – including Cancel for Any Reason and Flight Disruption Assistance – have exceptionally strong CSAT because the terms are always clear, and customers receive instant, no-questions-asked resolutions.
- Almost 30% of our app customers purchase at least one fintech product when making a booking; and consumers are 1.6x more likely to repurchase if they add fintech to their booking vs if they booked just travel.
Given the success of its fintech products, Hopper launched a B2B initiative, HTS (Hopper Technology Solutions), which represents more than 75% of the business.
- Through HTS, any travel provider (airlines, hotels, banks, travel agencies, etc.) can integrate and seamlessly distribute Hopper’s fintech or travel inventory on their direct channels.
- As its first HTS partnership, the company partnered with Capital One to co-develop Capital One Travel, a new travel portal designed specifically for cardholders. Other HTS partners include Air Canada, Uber, CommBank, Nubank, Flair Airlines and many more.
Hopper has been named the #1 most innovative company in travel by Fast Company. We have raised over $750 million USD of private capital and are backed by some of the largest institutional investors and banks in the world. HTS is primed to continue its growth as the leading travel ecommerce provider in a $1 trillion online shopping category. The Hopper app and website will also continue to be the preferred travel provider for Gen Z and Millennials.
Compensation Range: $150K - $300K

Align your portfolio with Hopper's technical stack
Hopper's engineering work centers on distributed systems, real-time data pipelines, and mobile-first product development. Before applying, tailor your resume and GitHub portfolio to reflect experience in these areas so your credentials map clearly to their posted roles.
Target roles with existing LCA filings
Search DOL's OFLC disclosure database for Hopper's Labor Condition Application history under Senior Software Engineer titles. Roles with prior LCA filings signal an established sponsorship workflow, which reduces friction during your offer negotiation and filing process.
Verify your specialty occupation documentation early
USCIS scrutinizes H-1B petitions for software roles where the degree requirement isn't narrowly defined. Gather transcripts, credential evaluations for non-U.S. degrees, and a detailed offer letter specifying required technical qualifications before your employer files Form I-129.
Raise sponsorship intent before the offer stage
Hopper's recruiting process moves quickly through technical screens and system design rounds. Confirm the team's willingness to sponsor during the hiring manager conversation, not after the verbal offer, so both sides aren't surprised when the formal offer letter is drafted.
Browse open roles using Migrate Mate
Filtering Senior Software Development Engineer positions at Hopper by visa sponsorship history takes research. Use Migrate Mate to surface active openings alongside sponsorship track record, saving you time before you invest in interview preparation.
Plan your timeline around the H-1B cap cycle
If you're on OPT, USCIS registration opens each March for the October 1 cap start date. Work backward from that date to identify when Hopper would need to begin your petition, so your offer timing aligns with the filing window.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Hopper sponsor H-1B visas for Senior Software Development Engineers?
Yes, Hopper sponsors H-1B visas for Senior Software Development Engineer roles. The company has an active track record of filing petitions for engineering positions, including Labor Condition Applications filed with the DOL. If you're in this role category, sponsorship is a documented part of their hiring for qualified candidates, though individual offers depend on role-specific business need and your visa status at the time of hire.
Which visa types are commonly used for Senior Software Development Engineer roles at Hopper?
H-1B is the most common nonimmigrant visa used for Senior Software Development Engineer positions at Hopper. For candidates pursuing permanent residence, Hopper has also supported employment-based Green Card pathways, including EB-2 and EB-3 categories, which typically require PERM labor certification filed with the DOL. The right pathway depends on your qualifications, degree level, and how long you've been in the U.S.
What qualifications and experience are expected for Senior Software Development Engineer roles at Hopper?
Hopper's Senior Software Development Engineer roles typically require strong experience in backend or full-stack development, with depth in distributed systems, APIs, or real-time data processing. A bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science or a closely related field is standard for H-1B specialty occupation qualification. Candidates with experience in travel technology, pricing systems, or high-throughput consumer applications tend to align well with Hopper's engineering priorities.
How do I apply for Senior Software Development Engineer jobs at Hopper?
You can browse active Senior Software Development Engineer openings at Hopper through Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles alongside sponsorship history so you can prioritize your applications. Once you identify a relevant opening, apply directly through Hopper's careers page. Their process typically includes an initial recruiter screen, technical assessments covering algorithms and system design, and a final round with the engineering team before an offer is extended.
How do I time my application if I'm on OPT and need H-1B sponsorship at Hopper?
The H-1B cap registration window opens each March, with approved petitions taking effect October 1. If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your OPT end date and calculate whether your remaining authorization covers the gap to October 1. If not, a timely cap-gap extension may apply if USCIS receives your petition before your OPT expires. Align your Hopper interview timeline so an offer can be finalized before the March registration window closes.
