Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Software Design Engineer Jobs at KLA Jobs
Align your portfolio to KLA's product stack
KLA builds software for semiconductor inspection and metrology systems. Highlight embedded software, real-time systems, or C++ and Python work tied to hardware integration. Generic web or app development portfolios won't signal fit the way domain-adjacent projects do.
Start your OPT timeline before final interviews
If you're on F-1 status, DSO processing for OPT takes up to 90 days. Initiate the application before you receive an offer so your EAD is ready by your target start date and doesn't delay KLA's onboarding process.
Target teams with active hardware-software co-design work
KLA's most active Software Design Engineer hiring sits in divisions building control software for physical inspection tools. Roles tied to hardware integration tend to have clearer specialty occupation framing, which strengthens the H-1B petition during USCIS adjudication.
Prepare for a multi-round technical process
KLA's Software Design Engineer interviews typically include system design, algorithm questions, and domain-specific scenarios around real-time or low-latency software. Arriving prepared for hardware-aware design discussions sets you apart from candidates with purely backend or cloud backgrounds.
Browse open Software Design Engineer roles on Migrate Mate
Filter by KLA on Migrate Mate to see which Software Design Engineer positions are currently active and sponsorship-eligible. This saves time you'd otherwise spend screening roles that aren't open to visa applicants before applying.
Confirm H-1B cap status before your offer letter
KLA is a cap-subject employer, so H-1B sponsorship depends on winning the annual USCIS lottery, which runs in March for October start dates. If you're already cap-exempt through a university or research institution, discuss transferring that status with your immigration attorney before resigning.

Find Software Design Engineer at KLA JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does KLA sponsor H-1B visas for Software Design Engineers?
Yes, KLA sponsors H-1B visas for Software Design Engineers. The role typically meets the specialty occupation standard because it requires a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related technical field. KLA is a cap-subject employer, so sponsorship is tied to the annual H-1B lottery, which USCIS runs each spring for an October 1 start date.
How do I apply for Software Design Engineer jobs at KLA?
You can search and apply through KLA's careers portal directly, or use Migrate Mate to filter Software Design Engineer roles at KLA that are open to visa sponsorship. Applications typically require a resume and may ask about work authorization status upfront. Engineering roles at KLA move through a recruiter screen, technical interviews, and a final loop before an offer is extended.
Which visa types does KLA commonly use for Software Design Engineer roles?
KLA sponsors H-1B visas for most Software Design Engineer hires and supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students and recent graduates. The company also files for Green Cards through the PERM labor certification process under EB-2 and EB-3 categories for engineers in longer-term roles. TN and J-1 visas cover specific situations involving Canadian or Mexican nationals and exchange visitors.
What qualifications does KLA expect for Software Design Engineer candidates?
KLA generally expects a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or software engineering. For Software Design Engineer roles, hands-on experience with C++ or Python is standard, and familiarity with real-time systems, embedded software, or hardware-software integration is a practical differentiator. Candidates targeting advanced roles often bring prior semiconductor or capital equipment industry exposure.
How do I plan my timeline if I need H-1B sponsorship to work at KLA?
The H-1B lottery registration opens in March, with approved petitions taking effect October 1. If you receive an offer from KLA after the lottery closes, you'll either need to wait until the following cycle or explore whether you qualify for a cap-exempt filing through prior employment. OPT allows up to 12 months of work authorization, with a 24-month STEM extension available for qualifying engineering degrees, giving you time to clear a lottery cycle.
