Target academic and research departments first
Lamar University's sponsorship activity concentrates in faculty and research-facing roles. Focus your search on departments aligned with your specialty field, these positions are most likely to support H-1B or Green Card sponsorship through established university processes.
Understand the university's hiring cycle
Higher education institutions like Lamar University follow academic hiring calendars. Faculty and staff roles are typically posted in fall and spring. Applying during these windows improves your chances of being considered before H-1B cap deadlines become a timing constraint.
Confirm OPT and CPT eligibility early
As a university employer, Lamar University regularly works with F-1 students through OPT and CPT arrangements. If you're currently on a student visa, clarify with HR whether your target role qualifies before submitting your application, not all positions are structured for practical training.
Highlight specialty occupation credentials clearly
H-1B sponsorship at universities requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation. Emphasize your degree field's direct relevance to the position in your resume and cover letter. A clear degree-to-role connection strengthens both your application and any subsequent visa petition.
Ask about Green Card sponsorship timelines during offers
Lamar University has sponsored permanent residency for employees, typically through EB-2 or EB-3 categories. If long-term U.S. residency matters to you, raise this during the offer stage, universities often have legal counsel experienced with PERM labor certification processes.
Browse verified sponsoring employers before applying broadly
Not every university role comes with guaranteed sponsorship. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, helping you focus your effort on Lamar University openings most likely to support your visa category.
