Target faculty and research roles first
Marshall University's sponsorship activity is concentrated in academic and research positions. Focus your search on faculty openings, postdoctoral roles, and research coordinator positions, these are where sponsorship is most commonly offered and expected.
Understand Marshall's H-1B and Green Card track record
Marshall has a demonstrated history of sponsoring both H-1B and permanent residence petitions, making it a credible long-term option. Prioritize roles that historically lead to Green Card sponsorship, particularly tenure-track and staff research positions.
Leverage F-1 OPT and CPT as an entry point
Marshall actively supports F-1 students through OPT and CPT, which can serve as a bridge to H-1B sponsorship. If you're currently on OPT, securing a role at Marshall early gives you time to build a case for long-term sponsorship.
Connect with Marshall's Office of International Students and Scholars
Marshall's OISS handles immigration matters and works closely with hiring departments. Reaching out before or during your application signals genuine intent and helps you understand how quickly each department moves on sponsorship paperwork.
Apply early, university hiring cycles are long
Academic institutions like Marshall run structured hiring timelines tied to semesters and budget cycles. Applications for sponsored roles often close months before the start date, so timing your submission to the beginning of each hiring cycle is important.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Marshall University sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Marshall University sponsors H-1B visas and has a consistent track record of doing so. Sponsorship is most common for faculty, researchers, and specialized professional staff. If you're targeting Marshall, focus on roles where a specific advanced degree is required, these are the positions most likely to qualify as specialty occupations under H-1B criteria.
Which visa types does Marshall University sponsor?
Marshall University sponsors H-1B visas, Green Cards through the EB-2 and EB-3 categories, and supports F-1 students through both OPT and CPT. TN visas are also sponsored for eligible Canadian and Mexican nationals. The breadth of visa types makes Marshall a flexible option for international candidates at different stages of their immigration journey.
Which departments or roles at Marshall University are most likely to offer visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at Marshall University is most concentrated in academic departments, research institutes, and technical administrative roles. Faculty positions, particularly tenure-track and visiting lecturer roles, along with postdoctoral research appointments are the most common pathways. Departments in STEM, health sciences, and professional programs tend to have the highest volume of sponsored positions.
How do I find open visa-sponsored jobs at Marshall University?
Migrate Mate is the most efficient way to find visa-sponsored roles at Marshall University. The platform verifies sponsorship history by employer, so you can filter specifically for Marshall and see which active job postings come from a company with a real track record of H-1B and Green Card sponsorship, rather than relying on job descriptions that may not mention sponsorship at all.
How do I time my application to maximize my chances of sponsorship at Marshall University?
University hiring timelines are tied to academic calendars and annual budget cycles. Faculty and research roles typically open in late summer or early fall for positions starting the following academic year. For H-1B sponsorship specifically, Marshall would need to file by April 1 for an October 1 start, so applications that come in late spring may miss the window. Apply as early as possible once a role is posted.
