Align your portfolio to FDA-regulated software
Medtronic's engineering roles frequently require familiarity with IEC 62304 software lifecycle standards or FDA 21 CFR Part 11 compliance. Highlighting any regulated-software or medical device experience in your resume positions you as a lower-risk hire for a sponsorship conversation.
Target roles in Medtronic's established engineering hubs
Medtronic concentrates Senior Software Engineering hiring in sites like Fridley, Minnesota and Santa Rosa, California. Roles based at established R&D campuses tend to have cleaner sponsorship pathways because HR and legal teams there have experience processing H-1B petitions for this function.
Clarify sponsorship scope before the offer stage
Ask your recruiter whether the role supports only H-1B transfer or also covers Green Card sponsorship through PERM. For senior roles at Medtronic, EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship is available, but timelines and employer commitment vary by business unit, so confirm this before signing.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles by visa type
Not every Medtronic posting is open to sponsorship. Use Migrate Mate to browse Senior Software Engineering positions at Medtronic filtered by the visa types you need, so you only invest time in applications where sponsorship is already confirmed.
Account for H-1B cap timing in your start date negotiation
If you're not currently in H-1B status, a new petition is subject to the annual cap with an October 1 start date. Build that into any offer negotiation with Medtronic so your projected start date aligns with USCIS's fiscal year processing cycle.
Prepare for technical validation requirements in the interview loop
Medtronic's Senior Software Engineering interviews typically include a systems design round focused on safety-critical or embedded software. Coming prepared with examples from verification and validation testing, or DO-178C/IEC 62304 workflows, signals readiness for their regulated product environment.

Find Senior Software Engineering at Medtronic JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Medtronic sponsor H-1B visas for Senior Software Engineers?
Yes, Medtronic sponsors H-1B visas for Senior Software Engineering roles. The company has a well-established immigration program that handles both new H-1B cap filings and transfers for candidates already in H-1B status. Sponsorship availability can vary by business unit and location, so confirm the scope directly with your recruiter during the offer process.
How do I apply for Senior Software Engineering jobs at Medtronic?
You can apply through Medtronic's careers site or browse open roles filtered by visa sponsorship on Migrate Mate, which shows only positions where sponsorship is confirmed. Tailor your application to highlight regulated-software experience, specifically FDA or IEC 62304 familiarity, since Medtronic's hiring managers weight that heavily for senior engineering candidates building medical device software.
Which visa types does Medtronic commonly sponsor for Senior Software Engineering roles?
Medtronic sponsors H-1B, TN, and F-1 OPT and CPT for Senior Software Engineering positions. For candidates pursuing permanent residency, the company also supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process. The visa type offered typically depends on your citizenship, current status, and which business unit is hiring.
What qualifications does Medtronic expect for a Senior Software Engineering role?
Most Senior Software Engineering postings at Medtronic require a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, plus several years of professional software development experience. Experience with safety-critical or embedded software, familiarity with IEC 62304 or similar regulatory frameworks, and proficiency in C, C++, or Python are consistently listed requirements across their medical device product lines.
How long does the sponsorship and onboarding process take at Medtronic?
If you're transferring an existing H-1B, Medtronic can file a petition that allows you to start work once USCIS receives it, typically within a few weeks of your offer being finalized. For new H-1B cap filings, the earliest start date is October 1 of the following fiscal year. F-1 OPT candidates can start sooner, provided their OPT authorization is current and the employer has completed E-Verify enrollment.
