Tailor your resume to medical device PM frameworks
Medtronic Program Managers are expected to understand FDA regulatory processes, design controls, and stage-gate development cycles. Frame your experience around these frameworks explicitly, not just general project management, so recruiters can immediately map your background to their hiring criteria.
Target divisions with active product pipelines
Medtronic's Cardiac Rhythm, Spine, and Diabetes divisions regularly post Program Manager openings tied to product launches and regulatory milestones. Roles tied to active pipelines are more likely to move quickly through headcount approval and, by extension, through sponsorship decisions.
Clarify your visa category before the offer stage
H-1B, TN, and F-1 OPT each have different employer obligations and timelines. Before Medtronic's recruiter writes your offer, confirm which category applies to you so the HR team can route your file to the right immigration vendor without delays that could affect your start date.
Obtain PMP or CAPM certification before applying
Medtronic Program Manager postings consistently list PMP certification as a preferred or required qualification. Holding it before you apply removes a common screening objection and signals that your credentials are already aligned with U.S. industry expectations, which matters during sponsorship cost-benefit assessments.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Program Manager roles
Medtronic posts Program Manager roles across multiple business units and locations, which makes it easy to miss relevant openings. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Medtronic Program Manager roles that include visa sponsorship, so you're applying to positions where sponsorship is already confirmed.
Understand PERM timing if pursuing a Green Card
If Medtronic sponsors your Green Card through EB-2 or EB-3, the PERM labor certification process requires DOL to confirm no qualified U.S. workers were available. This process takes months and must begin well before your H-1B six-year limit approaches, so raise the conversation with HR early.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Medtronic sponsor H-1B visas for Program Managers?
Yes, Medtronic sponsors H-1B visas for Program Manager roles. The company has an established immigration program that handles petitions through a dedicated HR and legal vendor process. Program Manager positions typically qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria given the degree requirements in engineering, life sciences, or a related technical field that the role demands.
How do I apply for Program Manager jobs at Medtronic?
Apply directly through Medtronic's careers portal at jobs.medtronic.com, where roles are posted by business unit and location. You can also browse Program Manager openings that include visa sponsorship through Migrate Mate, which filters positions by sponsorship type so you can confirm eligibility before submitting your application. Tailor your resume to reflect FDA-regulated product development experience.
Which visa types does Medtronic commonly use for Program Manager roles?
Medtronic sponsors H-1B visas most commonly for Program Managers, along with TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying roles. F-1 OPT and CPT are used for early-career or internship-track Program Manager positions. For longer-term employment, Medtronic also supports Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa categories for qualified candidates.
What qualifications does Medtronic expect from Program Manager candidates?
Medtronic typically requires a bachelor's degree in engineering, life sciences, or a related technical field, often with a preference for an advanced degree. Hands-on experience managing cross-functional teams through FDA regulatory submissions or stage-gate product development cycles is strongly weighted. PMP or CAPM certification is frequently listed as preferred, and prior medical device industry experience differentiates candidates in competitive applicant pools.
How do I plan my timeline if Medtronic is sponsoring my H-1B?
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed in April for an October 1 start date, so your offer and USCIS lottery registration need to be in place well before that window. If you're currently on F-1 OPT, your OPT end date and the H-1B cap-gap provision will affect when you can work without interruption. Confirm your specific status dates with Medtronic's immigration team as early as possible in the offer process.
