Align your credentials to U.S. licensing standards
Michael Baker International works on federally funded infrastructure projects where an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or progress toward a Professional Engineer (PE) license carries real weight. Getting your EIT on record before applying signals you're ready to contribute on regulated projects.
Target postings tied to specific project types
Michael Baker staffs Development Engineers against active contracts in transportation, water, and energy sectors. Filtering for roles tied to disciplines matching your degree makes it easier for their team to map your background to a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open Development Engineer roles
Michael Baker International regularly posts Development Engineer openings across multiple office locations. Use Migrate Mate to browse and filter these positions by visa sponsorship eligibility so you're only applying where sponsorship is confirmed for this role type.
Understand how PERM timing affects Green Card planning
For EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, your employer files a PERM labor certification with DOL before submitting the immigrant petition. At a consulting firm like Michael Baker, this process typically begins after you've established tenure in your role, so ask about their internal policy during the offer negotiation.
Prepare a project portfolio that documents specialty occupation
USCIS requires H-1B petitions to demonstrate the role requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. A portfolio of engineering deliverables, such as design calculations, technical reports, or CAD documentation, directly supports your employer's petition by showing the role demands specialized knowledge.

Find Development Engineer at Michael Baker International JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Michael Baker International sponsor H-1B visas for Development Engineers?
Yes, Michael Baker International sponsors H-1B visas for Development Engineer roles. The company operates across infrastructure and consulting disciplines where specialty occupation requirements are well-established, making Development Engineers a strong fit for H-1B petitions. If you're already on OPT, they can bridge you to H-1B status through the annual cap-subject lottery, with a filing window opening each April for an October 1 start.
Which visa types are commonly used for Development Engineer roles at Michael Baker International?
Michael Baker International sponsors several visa categories for Development Engineers. H-1B is the most common pathway for full-time hires, and the company also supports F-1 OPT and CPT for candidates still completing degree programs. TN visas are available for Canadian and Mexican engineers in qualifying disciplines. For longer-term immigration, Michael Baker has supported EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship for engineers in established roles.
What qualifications or experience are expected for Development Engineer roles at Michael Baker International?
Most Development Engineer positions at Michael Baker require a bachelor's degree in civil, structural, environmental, or a related engineering discipline. Familiarity with project delivery on infrastructure or transportation contracts is valued, and progress toward an EIT or PE credential strengthens your application. For H-1B sponsorship purposes, your degree field needs to align directly with the engineering discipline the role falls under, not just engineering broadly.
How do I apply for Development Engineer jobs at Michael Baker International?
You can find and apply for Development Engineer roles at Michael Baker International through Migrate Mate, which filters job listings by visa sponsorship eligibility so you can confirm sponsorship before you apply. When applying, tailor your resume to the specific engineering discipline listed in the posting, reference relevant project experience, and be upfront about your visa status and timeline so the hiring team can assess sponsorship feasibility early in the process.
How do I plan around H-1B lottery timing for a Development Engineer offer?
If you receive an offer and need H-1B sponsorship, USCIS opens H-1B registration in March each year for an October 1 start date. If your OPT expires before October 1 and you're selected in the lottery, a cap-gap extension automatically covers the period between OPT expiration and your H-1B start date. Coordinating your offer acceptance and start date around this window is one of the first practical conversations to have with Michael Baker's HR team.
