Align your degree to Micron's technical requirements
Micron's Development Engineer roles require a degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering, not just a general engineering field. Verify your transcripts reflect coursework in semiconductor devices, thin-film processes, or VLSI design before you apply.
Target Boise, Manassas, and Boise fab openings
Micron's U.S. Development Engineer positions are concentrated around its fabrication sites in Idaho and Virginia. Filtering your search by these locations increases your chances of finding roles where Micron has established sponsorship workflows and legal team familiarity.
Get ahead of the H-1B cap timeline
H-1B cap registrations open in March for an October 1 start date. If Micron extends you an offer in the summer or fall, confirm whether they'll file for the next cap year or pursue a cap-exempt alternative like a university-affiliated lab role first.
Prepare detailed project documentation for your petition
USCIS scrutinizes specialty occupation petitions for engineering roles. Before your offer stage, organize documentation of specific technical projects, tools, and methodologies you've used, so Micron's legal team can build a clear specialty occupation argument for your petition.
Understand how EB-2 and EB-3 fit your green card path
Micron sponsors both EB-2 and EB-3 green card categories for Development Engineers. Your eligibility depends on your degree level and experience. Discuss with your recruiter early whether the PERM labor certification process will run concurrently with your H-1B tenure.
Browse open Development Engineer roles using Migrate Mate
Search Migrate Mate to filter active Development Engineer openings at Micron by visa type and location. This helps you identify which specific roles have a sponsorship history and avoid applying to positions that typically don't support international candidates.

Find Development Engineer at Micron Technology JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Micron Technology sponsor H-1B visas for Development Engineers?
Yes, Micron Technology sponsors H-1B visas for Development Engineers. Micron's semiconductor engineering roles fall squarely within the specialty occupation definition USCIS requires for H-1B approval, given the degree-specific technical knowledge involved. Micron also sponsors H-1B1 visas for eligible Chilean and Singaporean nationals, making it one of the broader sponsorship programs in the semiconductor industry.
Which visa types does Micron Technology use for Development Engineer roles?
Micron sponsors H-1B and H-1B1 visas for Development Engineers in nonimmigrant status, and supports EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa categories for those pursuing permanent residence. The right category depends on your degree level, country of origin, and how long you've been with the company. Your recruiter and Micron's immigration legal team will advise which pathway applies to your situation.
How do I apply for Development Engineer jobs at Micron Technology?
Applications go through Micron's careers portal, where you can filter by job function and location. Development Engineer roles are typically posted under the Engineering or Technology functions. You can also use Migrate Mate to browse Micron's open Development Engineer positions filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility, which helps you identify relevant roles before applying directly on Micron's site.
What qualifications does Micron Technology expect for Development Engineer roles?
Micron's Development Engineer positions typically require a bachelor's degree at minimum in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field, with a master's degree preferred for many roles. Hands-on experience with semiconductor fabrication, device characterization, process integration, or memory technology is valued. Strong analytical and data interpretation skills are consistently expected across job postings for this function.
How do I plan around visa filing timelines when targeting a Development Engineer role at Micron?
If you need H-1B sponsorship, the cap registration window opens in March each year, with employment starting October 1. Micron typically initiates petitions well before the April filing deadline. If you're on OPT, confirm your OPT expiration date relative to those windows. A 60-day gap between job offers and cap dates is a real planning risk, so raise the timeline with your recruiter early in the offer process.
