Align your degree to civil or environmental engineering
Langan's Development Engineer roles fall under specialty occupation requirements, so your degree field needs to match the discipline. A degree in civil, geotechnical, or environmental engineering strengthens your H-1B petition far more than a general engineering background.
Target offices in active infrastructure markets
Langan concentrates hiring where project pipelines are strongest, including New York, Philadelphia, and major Sun Belt cities. Applying to offices with active land development or environmental remediation work puts you in front of the teams most likely to sponsor.
Prepare your EIT or PE credentials before applying
Langan's engineering roles typically expect candidates to hold an Engineer-in-Training certification or be actively pursuing Professional Engineer licensure. Having your EIT documented signals readiness for the role and reduces employer hesitation around sponsorship investment.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Development Engineer roles
Not every listing makes sponsorship willingness explicit. Use Migrate Mate to filter Langan's open Development Engineer positions by visa type, so you're only spending time on roles where your work authorization situation is already accounted for.
Clarify OPT or CPT timing early in the interview process
If you're on F-1 OPT, your 12-month window and any STEM extension clock matter to Langan's HR planning. Confirm your OPT end date and STEM extension eligibility before your first interview so the firm can map your timeline against the H-1B cap registration window in March.
Understand PERM timelines when evaluating an offer
Langan sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards through PERM labor certification, which DOL processing alone can take 12 months or more. If permanent residency is part of your plan, ask during the offer stage how the firm typically initiates PERM for Development Engineers.

Find Development Engineer at Langan Engineering and Environmental Services JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Langan Engineering and Environmental Services sponsor H-1B visas for Development Engineers?
Yes, Langan Engineering and Environmental Services sponsors H-1B visas for Development Engineers. The firm operates in a specialty occupation field where degree-level engineering credentials are a standard requirement, which supports H-1B eligibility. Sponsorship is factored into the hiring process, so candidates on F-1 OPT or requiring H-1B transfer are not automatically disqualified during recruitment.
How do I apply for Development Engineer jobs at Langan Engineering and Environmental Services?
Applications go through Langan's careers portal, where Development Engineer openings are listed by office location and discipline. You can also browse current roles filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility through Migrate Mate, which surfaces positions where international candidates are actively considered. Tailoring your resume to reflect specific project experience in civil, environmental, or geotechnical work improves your chances significantly.
Which visa types does Langan Engineering and Environmental Services commonly use for Development Engineers?
Langan sponsors H-1B, TN, J-1, and F-1 OPT and CPT for Development Engineers, and also supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways for longer-term hires. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles. The right visa type depends on your nationality, current status, and career stage within the firm.
What qualifications does Langan look for in Development Engineer candidates who need sponsorship?
Langan typically expects a bachelor's or master's degree in civil, environmental, geotechnical, or a closely related engineering field. For H-1B purposes, the degree must align directly with the job duties. Practical experience with site development, permitting, or environmental assessment strengthens your application. Engineer-in-Training certification is common at the entry-to-mid level, and Professional Engineer licensure becomes relevant for more senior Development Engineer positions.
How long does the H-1B sponsorship process take if I receive a Development Engineer offer from Langan?
H-1B cap-subject petitions follow USCIS's annual registration cycle, with the lottery opening each March for an October 1 start date. If you're already on H-1B with another employer, a transfer can begin immediately upon filing. For F-1 OPT holders, the gap between offer acceptance and H-1B activation requires OPT to remain valid through the transition, making early application timing critical.
